Well, right wing pundits have already lambasted this treaty, so I need not contribute. Thinking about this more generally . . . isn't it true of ANY treaty that it is good only until one party decides they no longer want to abide by it? Hitler/Russia non-aggression treaty comes to mind: "The buzzing horde of Stukka bombers currently pounding Leningrad shall hereby serve notice that we have decided to rescind our attachment to our former treaty. Have a nice day!"
Surely there is some purpose served by treaties, but what is it if the agreement can be disposed of easier than a Las Vegas chapel marriage. Thoughts? Is it simply a matter of embarrassment, do nations abide by their treaties to keep the good currency of their word of honor? to save face?
Perhaps Obama can bring his Yaqui Indian Medicine Man to divine for us the meaning and wisdom of treaties by giving praise to the Ctrl-Alt-Delete buttons of our respective computers.
