You're right. However, there is absolutely no reason for this effort. The government already mandates all surf records to be kept so they can access later via warrant if the need to. Last thing we need is the government issuing ids to surf. That would open the door for restricted access.

It ain't just the Democrats. Each succeeding administration will come up with wonderful new ideas designed to enhance US security while we fight the "global war on terror." Fear is the perfect political tool. The two political partys will try to outdo each other as they restrict our personal freedoms.
The panjandrums at the Homeland Insecurity Dep't sit on their butts in DC and cite instances where dastardly Islamic extremists have tried to breach our security. Never mind that their pronouncements are almost always lacking in detail.
The fearful sheeple will take the erosion of their freedom in stride until personal freedoms become non-existent. Citizens of the US will be arrested for daring to criticize the government.
Remember: It all started with the so called "patriot act."

I'd say it recently began in 1986 when sobriety check points were explained away. Gave the powers the OK to stop and search anytime a threat to the public good was declared. Congress will decide this week on the threat. They have the authority to check your ID without cause. Expect some law makers to reference drunk driving.
not surprised.
everytime funds run out, they come up with some kind of division, or squad, task force...what ever they wanna call it, to get more funds.

funds? what funds? this country is printing money to pay there debts.social programs, bank bailouts, and a war all being paid for Via printed dollars.both major parties had a hand in creating this mess.what we need to be worried about is countries like china, germany, saudi arabia,***an qatar and a few others, that met recently and discussed not accepting U.S. dollars to buy oil and creating there own currency.Look at history and see what printing dollars to pay your debts does to countries that have tried.hyperinflation, total breakdown of infrastructure, kaos among it's population.that won't happen here you say? well it's already happening. china who carries more of our debt than any single country is selling U.S. dollars as quickly as they can, without totally destroying there economy.still don't believe it, well neither did the british who's sterling was the reserve currency for 150 years. Falcon said it best "sheeeple" yes we have ourselves to blame also for buying into what we have been lead to believe.fear is all that this government has to try and control us for as long as they can.life as we know it here is on the verge of total collaspe.how soon real soon, since i have not seen "any" politician suggest anything to resolve the problems facing us. just more of the same..
So if you had no problem with the Bush admin implementing wiretaps on American citizens, this should be a non-event, right? After all, many on this board said, "Well, if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about."
C'mon in, Big Brother. Lmao, "trusted digital identities."

Wow, just make stuff up again won't you? I already addressed your point when you tried to equate this to scanners at the airports. The Bush administration wasn't ever targeting Americans with wiretaps. The targets were the bad guys overseas. They were using good profiling techniques and legally going after the enemy at a time of war.
