Default I'm loving Nikki!!!

Nikki Haley, the next Gov for SC asked Obama to repeal Obamacare. When he said not on his watch, she followed up with essentially SC can't afford it and asked to be allowed to opt out. Which Obama said he would consider based on 3 things. Her response, she will go back and meet those 3 things.

However, that's not why I love her. She ask Obama to reconsider Yucca Mountain for our Nuke waste. He said no. She responded with, SC wants their 1.2 billion dollars back that they spent in full expectations that Yucca would be open for business.

Keep it up Nikki Haley. You're a welcomed addition to the Republican party!

Sounds like she has more stones than most of the Republicans in office. Maybe she will be an inspiration to others.

Is that number correct? South Carolina has put $1.2 Billion into Yucca Mountain? I know the source is weak, but Wiki says that only $9 Billion has been spent on it in total... If so, it seems like SC has put in way more than their "fair share."

That is what she claimed last night on Hannity. 9 Billion seems like a very low number for Yucca and a government run project.

From the Department of Energy, in 2008:

Quote:
Who pays for Yucca Mountain?
  • The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 requires utilities which generate electricity using nuclear power to pay a fee of one tenth of one cent ($0.001) per kilowatt-hour into the Nuclear Waste Fund.
  • The cost for the expected life cycle of the Program (136 years, between 1983 and 2119) is projected to be $58 billion.
  • Approximately $9 billion has been spent so far.
  • Which states have paid most?
  • "For each year beyond 2017 that the repository’s opening is delayed, the Department estimates that U.S. taxpayers’ potential liability to contract holders who have paid into the Nuclear Waste Fund will increase by approximately $500 million. This will be in addition to the estimated current potential liability of approximately $7.0 billion due to the Department’s not beginning removal of spent nuclear fuel in 1998 as required by contract." -- OCRWM Director Ward Sproat, testifying before the U.S. House of Representatives.

I've deleted links that were embedded in the article. Tried to go to the link under 'Which states have paid most?" but it was broken...

I bet whats left off then is the amount of money states have paid for temporary storage of the spent fuel, studies and specialized containers for transport to Yucca. I have no idea how or where she got her number. I bjust love her push back on Washington.
