Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default "Christian' Conservatives Show Religious Bias

Now, this is just wrong-headed.

"The race to lead the Texas House of Representatives has taken a religious turn, with some conservatives in the state suggesting that the speaker of the House, who is a Jewish Republican, should be replaced by a "Christian conservative."

Over the past month, in a spate of e-mails and political pitches, conservative opponents of incumbent Speaker Joe Straus have said they want him replaced not because of his Jewish religion, but because of his betrayal of Republican principles.

But several of Straus' critics have noted how important it is that a Christian be named to take his place. These discussions have been made public by a series of media reports, drawing condemnation from some corners and making others in the GOP more than a bit uncomfortable.

In one e-mail conversation between two members of the State Republican Executive Committee, official John Cook stressed the need for a Christian to lead other Christians in the legislature.

"We elected a house with Christian, conservative values. We now want a true Christian, conservative running it," Cook said in the Nov. 30 e-mail, first published by the Texas Observer."

And black liberals think he should be replaced with a black liberal.
And Catholic independents think he should be replaced with a Catholic independent.
And Latino liberals think he should be replaced with a Latino liberal.

Bla bla bla....... What's your point?

It's the best slur against Christians he could come up with today. Maybe he can do better tomorrow.

I bet the congressional black caucus tries really hard to get Jewish leadership.....

I don't know, as LBR already point out. Are you ok with the congressional black caucus refusing to allow a white congressman to join their caucus despite representing a district with a very large black majority?

Not at all. I'm very offended that the cbc doesn't allow representation from all races. I bet you are too--right?

I don't know why folks here cannot deal with the issue. We have overt, demonstrated religious bias and people are trying to make irrelevant allusions to the black caucus.

It seems that folks cannot be just upfront. Wrong is wrong.

Yes, I don't understand. The post that started this thread made no reference to the Congressional black caucus. How did that get into this discussion.

Regarding the original topic, I could see objecting to this guy because he's not conservative enough, but what's this nonsense about "Christian conservatives?" It's stuff like this that makes people nervous about politicians who make their religion a political issue.

Why does he have to be a Christian? And does he have to be the right kind of Christian. And what kind would be the "right" kind? Their have been so many different brands of Christian developed, some of them fairly recently, that it gets almost scary.

I think the guys who designed the Constitution had it right when they ruled out mixing government and religion.
