If your (sic) looking for an environmental role model, Irish rockstar, Bono (born Paul David Hewson, May 10, 1960), of the band U2 is a good place to start. Bono ... participated in a tree planting ceremony in Tokyo Bay, ***an, in 2008, where efforts are being taken to turn a landfill into an 88 hectare forest. Bono has also been active in the Greenpeace community since 1993 when his entire band participated in a protest against a nuclear power plant, Sellafield, in England. And of course, Bono is self-reported avid recycler and drives a car which runs on ethanol instead of gasoline.
U2’S 360 Degrees tour, the most expensive rock spectacle ever, is here. The tour, with a daily running cost of $850,000, arrived on six 747 jets…
“You compare a tour by the number of trucks they use,” production manager Jake Berry said. “The Rolling Stones ran 46 trucks. We are running 55. This is the biggest.”

I've yet to understand the facination with him or U2. He's very similar to bho in that manner.
He's also similar to bho in not even pretending to practice what he preaches to us "common" folk. What a shocker.

Isn’t it odd that people like Ed Bagley Jr. are not heard from (those who practice what they preach), yet those like Bono and Gore are the voice for so many things they do not personally subscribe to?

I think I can help you out with that. 22 Grammy awards (more than any band in history) and more than 150 million records sold. It would be shocking if people weren't fascinated with such incredibly talented artists.
With all that said, the level of fascination with them is much less than that for Elvis, the Beatles or Michael Jackson.
The only reason you noticed is that you don't like what they are saying. Just so you know, U2 moved its publishing company from Ireland to the Netherlands to avoid tens of millions in taxes. That is much more hypocritical than the articles named above. That doesn't stop me from loving their music, it is the soundtrack of my life.
I love the part about recycling. I'm a bigger recycler. I use, I throw away and it goes back to mother earth. Cant get any cleaner than that!

That would fall under the fascination that I don't get. Seems that good marketing goes a long way--did Garth Brooks have their manager? That's another one I never got....
The above, along with bho, are proof it doesn't take major talent or intelligence to be "somebody". A loud, whiney voice, good marketing, and luck will get you there--at least it did the three I mentioned.
