well the USA does have the highest incarceration rate of any nation.

ie you're more likely to goto prison in the US than anywhere else!

of course when our prisons are run by big business, the more prisoners you have the more you make!

i know here in texas, alot of the prisons are run by contracted establishments....the state simply pays them, instead of building their own jails.

But they're not running the courts who put them there correct? Also, how is this any different than any Government entity that always sees their budget grow year after year because that's the norm? Heck, we have the government advertising for food stamp people every year.

well i agree to an extent...if the courts have to pay an outside service to house the inmates, then it would seem to me that they need to put twice as many in jail to make what they were making..make sense?

No, not at all when you consider the state cares less if the private company makes money and its awarded to the lowest bidder. Then add in the fact state workers cost way more than the private sector. The state doesn't need to make a profit. The have the ability to tax everyone to death.

You guys need some edumaction, jail and prison are 2 very different things. The baddest guy in the world has no problem with jail but prison makes him tear up. Seen it happen when I did jail ministries with men on there way to prison after being convicted. I'll never see the 2 the same again.

Crazy story.

What exactly does that have to do with the thread? On a side note, I do agree with that statement. Fou d out yesterday and old coworker is in jail right now facing a long prison term. Supposedly can be bailed out for 75k which should be chump change for him but remains in jail. I'm pretty sure it's due to the fact it's a better place to serve time.
