“Jon Stewart is influential in America, so we took the opportunity for the two to meet and to discuss the economy,” Treasury spokesman Steve Adamske said in an e-mail yesterday.

Yep, he's influential all right. In charge of a left wing Peanut Gallery.
The idea that an administration official would acknowledge that he's "influential" bespeaks the trend wherein anyone who's face is in front of a camera enough for any reason what so ever is entitled to give commentary and opinion on federal policy. It would all be very funny if it were not so sad.
Actually if you think about it, it started with news people, anchors and so on, who became considered to be "learned" because they appeared on TV each evening reading a script of the days events. Next thing you know, they were entitled to give opinions...just like Stewart. The big difference is that Stewart's opinion is given credence without so much as a question as to his credentials to give one. The circle of stupidity is now complete.
