This action is so typical of liberal politicians. Let me be the first to say the words: "unintended consequences." I will leave it as an exercise to the student to ennumerate all such unintended consequences.
The reason I say this is typical of liberals is that they seem to think if they change one variable in a multi-variable system . . . all the other variables are going to stay constant. NOT!!! Change the taxation rate . . . everything else is going to stay unchanged and we are just going to rake in more money, cover the deficit, problem solved!!! Au contraire, mon ami. Change one variable, and the other variables change. The question is which variables are going to change and how much are they going to change.
It is hubris to think that we understand things well enough to just spin the dial and get where we want to go. The prudent course for those with some actual hands-on experience in life is to turn the dial GRADUALLY. If the current standard is X mpg, let's dial that figure up by 5% over 5 years and revisit the target in 5 years. If you don't like 5% and you want 10%, maybe that is OK. 100% over 15 years . . . I'm not buyin' it. Unintended consequences time.
