I don't know what to think. From the video, the initial 'assault' was by the security guys who laid hands on the 'electioneer'. On the other hand, the guy with the sign was pretty belligerent and the first thing any security pro will tell you, is that when something's going down, you grab the organizers; this guy was appealing to the crowd for support which is not a good thing when there's 3 security guards and 50 bystanders who are being asked to support somebody who is now seen as a 'subject'.
It seems the situation was explained to the guy who was willing to ignore the instruction. IT was the only thing the security guys did not avert the confrontation, IMO. This needs to go to court. He needs to get a good lawyer and win his case.
Then he needs to sue everybody involved....the people holding the event, the security company (yes, the depiddy dawgs DID call a supervisor so it's an OFFICIAL action, not one the company can disavow), everyone involved. I hope he crucifies them because I don't know if you can legally have private property, open it up to the public, and then still claim private property rights based on unwritten rules that appear to be made up along the way. This needs to be followed to see what happens......
If the rules are easily and openly acessable, and he agreed to abide by them when the came on the (private) property.....as much as I agree with the message, the delivery would be (IMO) illegal.
However, if it's like it looks (rules not open and acessable, maybe made up as they go along), then the guy should have a case.

That's my position too...in a bazillion less words.
I'm not sure, but I'm going to bet that, if it's private property, you can make up the rules as you go along, provided you inform someone what the rule is and give him a chance to conform. I'm also willing to bet that, had he been walking around with a T-shirt or one of those sandwich board things with the same message, they wouldn't have bothered him. I think they got on him because his sign was pretty obtrusive.
At our county fair, you can rent a booth and pass out pamphlets and flyers to people, but you can't walk around passing them out.

Its private property, they make thier own rules. He also had a handgun on him, which was another violation of the rules. If the sign had been supporting Obama you would all be saying he should rot in jail.I dont have much sympaty for him, he was asked by security to leave, he didnt do it, now hes in jail, next time maybe he will do things properly and be able to get his message out.
It's a state fair and if the state is providing (and I bet dollars to donuts it is) any money, providing police, subsidizing it in any way then I doubt that they can use the private property/event defense.

It is perfectly legal for a person to be carrying concealed with out a permit in Alaska. The only thing that he MIGHT have done wrong here, according to Alaska Sec. 11.61.220, is not inform the peace officer that he was carrying concealed.
A person 21 or older may be charged with Misconduct involving Weapons in the 5th degree under AS 11.61.220 if s/he
fails to immediately inform a peace officer that s/he is carrying a concealed handgun
fails to allow the officer to secure the weapon or fails to secure the weapon at the direction of the peace officer, or
carries the weapon concealed within another person's residence, unless s/he has first obtained the express permission of an adult residing there, whether or not the person has a concealed handgun permit.
"peace officer" means a public servant vested by law with a duty to maintain public order or to make arrests, whether the duty extends to all offenses or is limited to a specific class of offenses or offenders.
I doubt that the private security guards qualify as "peace officers" under Alaska law.

The Alaska State Fair has completed a review of the actions taken last Thursday, August 26, when Sidney Hill was arrested after he caused a disturbance on the fairgrounds while carrying a large political sign. An edited video of Hill’s protest and subsequent arrest was posted on YouTube. Hill has since been charged with three misdemeanor crimes.
Imagine that, the video was edited, wonder what all got left out.
Quote:
Fair management has since learned that a vendor assistant, employed by the Alaska State Fair, did stop Hill just after he entered the Purple Gate, when she saw him blocking the walkway and impeding fairgoers ability to walk by holding his large sign across the walkway. When she questioned Hill as to his intentions, he yelled and called her names and refused to stop or change his behavior, so she called security.
Quote:
According to Petersen, Hill was not just standing there peacefully protesting, he was waving his sign, shouting and interfering with the show taking place at the Plaza. As soon as the security guards attempted to remove him from the property, Hill resisted and wrapped his legs around the guard. As he was brought under control, a handgun became visible in Hill’s pocket.
Lets see, so he snapped on a employee and started calling her names and yelling, interfered with a show that was taking place, and was swinging his sign around and yelling then resisted attempts to remove him.
Quote:
In Thursday’s incident, Petersen was appropriately notified of the Hill encounter, and he is the person who ultimately took the ****ed and loaded gun out of Hill’s pocket.
The gun wasnt only loaded but it was also ****ed, this guy sounds better all the time doesnt he.Theres also a photo of the signs posted at every entrance prhibiting guns among other things from being brought onto the property.
Quote:
Hill has subsequently been charged with three misdemeanors. Hill was already facing charges of harassment likely to provoke violence from an unrelated incident on August 19.
The guys still awaiting trial on another incident where he was provoking violence, sounds like a real class act doesnt he.Hope he gets a lengthy jail sentence, hes a moron and richly deserbves one.

HAHAH....and that's why they build jails. Provided all this is true, he'll be receiving numbers and an orange jumpsuit.
In New York State, prisoners make license plates...I wonder what they do in Alaska ? Shovel snow from in front of the constable's stations ? Heheheheheheh....what a wacko.
