FYI, the cell has the ability to have the mic turned on without your knowledge. Kind of nice feature if you might want to plant a bug.
Really??? Remotely? Without me even touching it? Or would someone have to have physical access to the phone without my knowing it, and then they fiddle with it to have it on?
If what you say is true, and I'd have no way of knowing that it was turned on, then how in the world could someone ever prosecute the govt or any agency if they used this surveillance technology?

I've not heard about the use of the cell's microphone as a 'bug'...still, if it's powered off, it's just a paperweight.
But these types of surveillance are increasingly intrusive; it's funny that a liberal court ok'd the idea that you have no expectation of privacy in your own driveway. I remember an old old conversation which appears to be proving itself:
both fascism and socialism stem from the left.
WIth the government's stated need to intrude on us in this manner, looks like our own devices will be our 'secret police'.
I understand for this operation of remotely turning on the mic, the phone must be turned on. Thru my sister, I know an ex-CIA lawyer. She was extremely paranoid about leaving her phone on between calls. Hmmm, wonder why?

Sure you can trust the government, just ask an Indian.

The level of technology in daily life is amazing, especially you consider most of us are just 1 generation removed from TV, 'pot belly coal stoves' in the kitchen, and 2 generations removed from electric lights. Now you can buy a 'toy' that the government can use to find you, track your movements, and listen in on what you're doing. Almost makes you wish for that EMP attack they've been looking to avoid.....
You really wouldn't have any "expectation of privacy" driving around in your car out there in public. The police can always follow you. The GPS device just makes it easier.

Well, what people EXPECT (like having some privacy inside their locked car with the windows up) and what the law allows are often two very different things, unfortunately. Still, the deployment of a GPS device on your private property does seem a bit much, even if you don't get any privacy IN your car, you certainly have the ability to remove things ON your car that don't belong, if you know they're there. Hence, a device to 'sweep' the car might be a good thing....

If you think about it, I'll bet you have taken your car/truck to a number of places in the last couple days where someone could attach such a device without trespassing on private property.

They won't do it to a pee on. What they will do is create a climate that your neighbor will watch you and turn you in. The incentive will be that your neighbor who has coveted your property will get to take it after they haul you off to a camp.
If you happen to be the neighbpr who turns in your neighbor the real killer will be that you will not get any special treatment when your neighbor turns you in. Kind of like twisting the knife after it's stuck in.
Eventually the countries resources will be wasted and an outside power will sweep through the land. That power will be one that doesn't stick it to each other for a tv. Muslims do not stick it to each other. I'd make friends with some muslims, or trust in government. You decide which.
