Buy land. Right now there are some good bargains and the beauty of it is you can hunt on it while it is appreciating.

buy florida property....it's dirt-cheap and collecting rents pays for the property. It will appreciate and there's a buck to be made when times get better. If not, well, the checks clear every month....

if I had the money I'd buy a beach front along the gulf shores AL ......... and wait for a hurricane to destory it so I could get FEMA paid

I'm gonna say that 'beachfront' won't be so heavily discounted.
The property's too valuable and people would rather pay the property taxes on an empty lot or a vacant house than jump the gun and short-sell the house (not legal short-sell, just sell it under-valued).
We bought in Naples Fl...cripes the beachfront property there is untouchable...I cannot imagine it's different anyplace else, actually.
