Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Lame duck session gun control legislation?

As some of you may have heard, the mid-term election is shaping up to be a major spanking for Democrats. There are prospects that the Democrats may lose one or both of their majorities in the House and Senate. Let's suppose that the Democrats lose both houses. What bad gun control legislation may the Democrats seek to push through a lame duck session? Any speculations?

Or do you think the Democrats who have not been voted out will be sufficiently chastened by the mowing down of many of their colleagues that they will not touch the "third rail" of national politics, and thus will not vote with the lame ducks to pass bad gun control legislation?

I don't understand how the lefties can push gun-control legislation AFTER they lose majorities in one or more houses of Congress ? I am assuming that RINO's will be mostly replaced with conservatives in this whole process, and surviving democrats will be more centrist or bluedogs.... I would think that the minority party (democrats) will be relegated to blocking republican initiatives, among which I cannot conceive of a gun-control bill.

He is talking about pushing the legislation during the lame duck session. That is after the election in November, even those voted out will still come back to finish out the year.

So the concern is if the democrats lose their majorities, when they come back to complete the year, their attitude may be "we have nothing to lose...."

There ain't going to be any lame duck session gun control legislation: There are not enough votes in the house to pass it. Anyone remember the letter that pro-gun house Democrats sent to Obama and Holder? That letter was signed by 65 pro-gun Democrats and it stopped the Obama gun control agenda in its tracks.

The senate is a total different matter. Any kind of gun control legislation would pass the senate with the help 6-10 Republicans.

legislation like that, I believe, will die in the House of Representatives. We DO have some renegade pro-gun demos on our side after all.

I think it's highly unlikely. First, whether or not the Republicans take the House, I think more Democrats will stay than go, and many of those remaining are arguably moderates who understand their constituents enough to avoid gun control like the plague. Second, there simply aren't enough pro-gun votes in the Senate anyway.

Gun control isn't relevant in the current news cycle. While I definitely would not say that a majority of Americans are "pro-gun", I would say that most feel that as long as the police and the criminals have guns, they should be able to obtain them too. All the more so considering the so-called 'drug war' in Mexico and the frequency with which deranged nutjobs shoot up schools and workplaces in this country.

all indications are the republicans will take the house of representatives, by a decent margin. At issue is the makeup of the Senate after election day...it's sure that Republicans will gain a lot of seats, it's not certain they will take the majority. Even Dick Morris who paints an ever-so-rosey picture for post-election day republicans only predicts a 51-49 republican Senate majority.
So, I'm counting on a Republican house, and a Democrat Senate with enough opposition to keep president empty-suit and the far left demo-wackos in check as originally designed by the founders.
