Whether it is a done deal or not, it does help to contact one's senators on these matters. Part of this is the impact on the senators themselves. Maybe they'll vote for Kagan this time, but if they find out how many of their constituents are activated by supreme court justice appointments, maybe next time they'll be more proactive in providing guidance to the president before the appointment is officially made. Don't tell me the president doesn't float trial balloons among senators before just throwing out his appointment. Hell, they probably float the trial balloons to the press so they get a public read on the prospect.
But another benefit of this is the awakening of citizens themselves, the members reading on this board and those who are close to them -- family, friends, co-workers. I imagine that someone reading SWThomas's pleas to contact their senators will be awakened, will think more about this issue, will have it more concretely in mind how vital is the power of the president in appointing supreme court justices that can make or break the second amendment. They may be excited enough to talk about it with their wife. Maybe their wife didn't think there was a dime's bit of difference between McCain and Obama and liked the idea of some fresh new blood rather than a tired old man. Maybe this wife will think "Oh goodness! There is a difference! The different view of supreme court justices is going to be a big difference!" Likewise with one's co-workers. Has none of us ever had our eyes opened and learned from just such an experience?
So done deal or not, it is like in baseball, you play the game out with resoluteness and with principle.
Contact your senators and let them know what you think about this appointment. And then when you vote for your senator next time around, bear in mind how they voted on the Kagan appointment and on the Sotomayor appointment. I know I remember.
If you want to take patriotic action education of our history and the history of man is mandatory. Kagan would never have made it as a candidate if politicians knew the people were educated about their history. But hey, that would mean missing some crap on tv. When tv is taken over and all that's shown is what the administration wants
people to see then people will be outraged. It will be too late then. Your free for now to choose.
Simple, Republicans just need to hold the line and filibuster her. She maybe a done deal however a filibuster would force the Dems hands to change the Senate's rules. It would force them to declare filibusters null and void when confirming judges. That win is way more powerful in the long run.

i wrote letters to US senators Coburn and Inhofe some time ago: Neither one replied. Problem is that Republicans in the US senate do not have the guts to filibuster the Kagan nomination.
BTW: Nine Republican senators voted to confirm SCOTUS justice Sotomayor, another anti-gunner:
The nine Republicans voting to confirm Sotomayor were Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Kit Bond of Missouri, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Mel Martinez of Florida, Richard Lugar of Indiana, George Voinovich of Ohio, and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine.
Yes, write your Senators. Don't expect an email to change anything in Washington, but write it anyway. Issues like like this go far beyond your own state, and it's critical to remind politicians that supporters of the Second Amendment remain an active political force.
no one is gonna agree with you on 100% of the issues, when have you ever agreed with any candidate on everything?
keagan is not a candidate, shes an Obama (nominated) appointement to the supreme court. She is FAR LEFT on just about every issue. The only silver lining in this disaster is she is only replacing another disaster, JPstevens.
