Insofar as the Az law is modeled after Federal statute, if this law is struck down on constitutional grounds, what affect will that have on the federal law ?

I can't see how this would even go to being unconstitutional. AZ isn't deporting anyone. They are turning them over to the federal government.

I don't see how Calderon has standing to file the suit. He hasn't been arrested under it. And, I wonder, if the Arizona law was compared to Mexico's law, which one would be more harsh towards immigrants.

Well, apparently in 2008 Mexico decriminalized it's policy on illegals.
Currently, it's a civil infraction, same as here.....
But I do not see how he has standing....unless you can count the millions of U.S. Dollars that are part of the Mexican economy as a result of the illegals sending money 'back home'....
