Sham Prom For Lesbian HS Student

The ACLU is claiming that the school board held a sham prom for the hefty bull chick while most of the students partied at another place. i just love it.

JACKSON, Miss. – A rural Mississippi school district that was sued by a lesbian student who wanted to bring a same-sex date to the high school prom is denying accusations it routed her to a "sham prom" at a country club while most of her schoolmates partied elsewhere.

The Itawamba County School District addressed the claims made by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of Constance McMillen in papers filed Friday with the U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.

It's been nearly two months since McMillen attended a prom at the Fulton Country Club that drew fewer than 10 other students from Itawamba Agricultural High School. Most of her classmates attended a separate event at the nearby Evergreen Community Center, to which McMillen was not invited, and later posted pictures from the dance on Internet sites.

while i was somewhat sympathetic to her original situation, i got a real hard time believing any school district administrator has both the inclination and enough free time to set up 2 proms, and then pull a bait n'switch, just to persecute the kid.

Does the school actually set up the proms or is it the student counsel?

Pretty sure the kids set it up. I don't see a prom as part of school curriculum. I don't know, but I think she showed up in her inappropriate attire and with her girlfriend.

Evergreen Community Center isn't even close to the city in which IAHS is located. I don't think there are any laws prohibiting the kids from setting up their own prom, and inviting whoever they choose.

I have no sympathy for her, period. She's raised a big stink and cost the area a lot in wasted tax dollars because she didn't want to obey long-standing school rules concerning the prom. Just because she decided that she was a lesbian (right after a male student got a lot of attention for attending school in a dress and high heels--before that she had a reputation with the guys) didn't obligate the school to change the rules just for her.
