The westboro idiots are coming to our county to "protest" a local graduation, where the suppossely lesbian student raised such a ruckus not long ago (and will be graduating). They aren't protesting the lesbian, but rather the other parents who didn't pitch a big enough fit to suit them. I'm sure the local sherrif's dept. will be proud of her again, since she is costing the county gobs of money--every officer in the county--reserve officers, jailers, etc.--will be on duty to be sure nothing happens. The idiots protesting are the ones that will need protection.

The Westboro bunch are truly sorry pukes. They were treated pretty roughly by some cycle riders at a military funeral in OK and they have not been back here.
Picketing the funeral of fallen soldier is a particularly vile form of protest. Its a tactic not unlike that of PETA. Anything to get attention for a twisted cause.
Aside from the blaming of deaths of US soldiers on America's policies toward homosexuals, I bet this group has a few silent supporters from board members here.
I don't recall the last thread posted here that didn't include slurs against homosexuals including the use of '******s' and a ton of variations of the same.

How do you figure? The school isn't that big, the town is small, the only reason the koooks are coming is because she brought attention to it. Otherwise they would have never even heard of IAHS, or cared about it.
The koooks are responsible for their own actions, but she is responsible for bringing this little town to their attention. It's not like it's a booming place to begin with, and her actions are the reason for all this taxpayer money being wasted.
Oh well...at least we can be thankful that certain people weren't born here.

Well Will, since you obviously don't know anything about this place, why do you care?
If you were stating an informed opinion, rather than just another ignorant liberal talking point, you would know it had nothing to do with liberal or conservative beliefs.
The rule stating that only couples that consisted of one female and one male was brought about years ago to solve a totally different problem. It was instated to keep a gang of males or a gang of females from attending the prom together, turning what was intended to be a formal dance into nothing more than a adolescent party. This was long before being "gay" was considered to be cool or normal. It wasn't even a consideration then.
If you were basing an opinion based on information rather than ignorance, you would know that said female had quite a reputation with male companions...coincidentally up to a point where a gay male student caused a ruckus by wearing a dress and high heels to school one day. I'm sure it was a coincidence that she suddenly decided she was a lesbian after the male student got so much attention. It couldn't be that she was just after attention herself.
If you were basing your opinions on information rather than ignorance, you would have known that she approached the school principal and asked for permission to bring her "girlfriend", and wear a tux rather than the appropriate prom dress. Permission to violate a long-standing rule was denied, but she decided she wasn't restricted to the same rules as everyone else.
Finally, if you were forming opinions based on information rather than ignorance you would know that the westboro group is not considered to be conservative, nor does it number in the thousands. It's a relatively small group, who's members are mostly related either by blood or marriage, and they are absolute nut jobs.
Ironically, they seem to have a lot more in common with the young female that got this hornet's nest stirred up than they have with conservatives. Just a bunch of koooks looking for attention any way they can get it. Seems to me that was her goal too.
Now, in this small town, which for the most part is God fearing and conservative, a large amount of tax dollars is going to be spent to protect the nuts who will be here looking for attention...and the only reason they are here is because someone else was starved for attention and found out how to get it. Attention sure is expensive for some people--too bad they don't have to foot their own bill.

because she has constitutionally protected rights. i'm not speaking of the right to her sexual identity, but rather her rights to free speech and to seek redress through the courts. whether or not you or i agree with her underlying motivation(s) she exercised those rights.
