WMD-In DC Area!!

During WWI the US Army school on war gas use was at American University. The US Army COE has been working at Spring Valley and surrounding area for about 15 years cleaning up toxic chemical agents that were improperly disposed of during and after WWI.

Toxic chemical agents were fired and/or dropped on numerous ranges in the US during WWI and WWII. To my knowledge none of those sites have been completely cleaned up. Some of those former ranges are no longer under the control of the US military.

Workers also discovered a jar about three-quarters full of a dark liquid that turned out to be the chemical agent mustard. It was used during World War I as a weapon that caused blisters, breathing problems and vomiting.

"It's a much larger disposal area than we predicted," Noble said. "The nature of debris is so different, perhaps it's a different disposal area."
