Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Watchdog group finds smaller servings of congressional pork

AS EXPECTED!!!!!!!!!!

The 9,129 projects in the report "represent a 10.2 percent decline from the 10,160 projects identified in fiscal year 2009, and the $16.5 billion in cost is a 15.5 percent decrease from the $19.6 billion in pork in fiscal year 2009," the group said.

The nonpartisan group, which has been shining the light on how members of Congress use the earmarking process to steer money to projects in their districts, attributed the decrease in part to "reforms that were adopted when Democrats took over Congress in 2006."

Yep, pork barrel spending is down a little. Wicker was the Crown Prince of Pork in FY 2009. Inouye is the Crown Prince of pork in FY 2010. In FY 2009 Mary Landrieu was the Senior Princess of Pork. Thad Cochoran was the King of pork in FY 2009 still reigns as King of Pork for FY 2010.

The Top Ten Senators involved with the special-interest provisions are for FY 2009:
  • 1. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.): $470,875,775
  • 2. Roger Wicker (R-Miss): $390,993,300
FY 2010:

And the king of pork is ... Sen. Thad Cochran. The Mississippi Republican ranks at the top this year of the Citizens Against Government Waste's list of congressional earmarkers.

Cochran, the ranking Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee, is typically a leading pork-seeker and in 2010 had his name on 240 projects worth $490.2 million The runner-up was Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, with 151 projects worth $387.5 million.

It takes [sarcasm]a real genius [/sarcasm] to applaud a $3 Billion cut in pork when the clowns in the White House and the clowns running the Congress are running up a $1.75 TRILLION deficit.

Quote:
Obama Unveils $3.55 Trillion Blueprint Budget

President's Plan Projects $1.75 Trillion Deficit

WASHINGTON (AP) ― President Barack Obama charted a dramatic new course for the nation Thursday with a bold but contentious budget proposing higher taxes for the wealthy and the first steps toward guaranteed health care for all — accompanied by an astonishing $1.75 trillion federal deficit that would be nearly four times the highest in history.
And, a little more rain for your parade:

Quote:
Earmark totals appear to have decreased from fiscal year (FY) 2009 to FY2010, but an apples-to-apples comparison tells a different story. In FY10, appropriations bills contained 9,499 congressional earmarks worth $15.9 billion. This compares with 11,286 congressional earmarks worth $19.9 billion in FY09. However, to do a true year-to-year comparison requires taking away certain Army Corps of Engineers earmarks that were included in FY09 but not in FY10. In addition, the FY09 total includes earmarks from a supplemental spending bill passed after the regular spending bills that year. After adjusting for both of these factors, FY10’s $15.9 billion in earmarks represents a slight increase from $15.6 billion in FY09.

Clown.

Yep. The reduction is all due to Obama... couldn't have anything to do with most House Republicans agreeing to an earmark moratorium for 2010. Right? Just like Bill Clinton was the one who nearly balanced the budget... It had nothing to do with Newt Gingrich and the Republicans taking over control of the purse strings in '94...
