Default Obama To Lift Drilling Ban off East Coast

He will also place some new restrictions on drilling in Alaska.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100331/...obama_drilling

WASHINGTON – In a reversal of a long-standing ban on most offshore drilling, President Barack Obama is allowing oil drilling off Virginia's shorelines and considering it for a large chunk of the Atlantic seaboard. At the same time, he's rejecting some new drilling sites that had been planned in Alaska.

........

Obama was set to announce the new drilling policy Wednesday at Andrews air base in Maryland. White House officials pitched the changes as ways to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign oil and create jobs — both politically popular ideas — but the president's decisions also could help secure support for a climate change bill languishing in Congress.

The president, joined by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, also was set to announce that proposed leases in Alaska's Bristol Bay would be canceled. The Interior Department also planned to reverse last year's decision to open up parts of the Chukchi and Beaufort seas. Instead, scientists would study the sites to see if they're suitable to future leases.

The Ban expired in 08. How can Obama lift the ban now?

Too funny, it's not drilling it's to sell leases. He's already proven to be liar on this very topic. During his campaign he said he wanted the ban back in place and attack McCain for wanting to drill. Now he's going to sell leases. Not so sure he would ever let drilling to occur. After all he's conceling leases as we speak just before drilling was to begin.

don't know if i'm more chagrined at the obvious reversal with reference to his '08 pledge to oppose more offshore drilling, or pleased that he recognized that that pledge was not a viable one

Hey Will, can you beleive the gas prices, getting mighty high again aren't they. Those dirty dasturdly BIG oil companys are reaping big incomes again. Obama better demand that the CEO's come before Congress quick, and stop this train from getting out of control. Just what this struggling economy needs, high gas prices. Ohhh but wait, Obama WANTS high gas prices, what was he said, "gas can't get to $5. fast enough", or something like that!!

Is that what you said when Bush lifted the ban? Nah... you probably said that Bush obviously hates the environment and wants to curry favor with his buddies in Big Oil...

Is that what you said when Obama reinstated the ban? Yeah, you probably touted him as a Great President who would go down in history as a great environmentalist who didn't kowtow to Big Oil.

The Rep's, the party of No:

1. Voted against the biggest tax cut in the past 20 years by voting against the stimulus.
2. Voted against bailing out banks and GM and now the Gov't is reaping huge wins with that.
3. Voting against employer tax cuts in the Job stimulus package.
4. Voted against Health Care to stop the runaway insane premium increases
5. Voting against drilling offshore?????????

Just keep it coming baby!!!!!!!!!
