I cannot believe this(well I actually can). I cant wait until the govt' finds out how many people die in there sleep! We might as well go move to a nursing home now since we obviously cant take care of ourselves.

Are you kidding me? The point, since you seem to lack the basic insight to connect the dots yourself, is that you tax people for behaviors that increase the burden on the health care system. No one is going to stop tanning (its like what, $10 a month?) over a 10% tax. But the revenue the tax generates can alleviate some of the concern you all seem to have over this.

Actually there isn't enough evidence either way but tanning beds are widely considered safer than a day under natural sun light because in the time that one spends in a tanning bed, less UVB radiation is absorbed by the body than than you get from the sun on a typical day at the beach. Both can and will cause skin cancer if abused.

How about "It's NONE of the government's G**Da*N business" if I want to tan my butt, buy guns or ammo or smoke. The legal term is "assumption of the risk" or in lay-mens' terms, "personal responsibility." You need look only as far as California to see what happens when the "camel's nose" is allowed to sneak under the tent.
Well you have to realize that the "NONE of the governments G** Da*N business" policy doesn't work because when YOU go ahead and do WHATEVER YOU PLEASE it has ramifications on health care costs. It's your choice to do whatever you want, and that's never changed.
When you choose to smoke, you affect your own health negatively-- I'm sure no one would argue that. Well, when you turn up in the emergency room dying of lung cancer, it affects everyone else.
