SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea's army said Monday it is ready to "blow up" South Korea and the U.S., hours after the allies kicked off annual military drills that Pyongyang has slammed as a rehearsal for attack.
South Korea and the U.S. — which normally dismiss such threats as rhetoric — began 11 days of drills across South Korea on Monday morning to rehearse how the U.S. would deploy in time of emergency on the Korean peninsula.
For the life of my i cannot understand why the US allowed that impoverished little communist theme park to develop nuclear weapons. The US should boycott Chinese goods until the communist Chinese bring their bad boy to heel.

I read somewhere that Kim Jong-ill was going to try his hand at terrorisim. He was going to blow up a bus load of tourist but couldnt get it done. He also got a real nasty burn on his lips, from the tail pipe, during the process.

Dear Leader and N Korea are not to be feared. I do not believe they could fight their way out of a paper bag. Things are much different from 1950, y'all. Personally, when N. Korea makes belligerant threats, my reading is they are trying to score points with their own people or more securely tighten down the screws on their internal people. The North Korean regime is holding on to things by the skin of their finger nails. It is largely thought to be a forgone conclusion that North Korea will "soon" cast off its authoritarian regime and join with South Korea in a capitalist state. It is hard for the North Korean regime to hide from their people the brilliant successes and progress of South Korea. North Korea is stuck in the time warp of 1950, while South Korea is a very economically vibrant affluent state that engages all of its citizens. By the way, the "time warp 1950" doesn't fully render the condition of North Korea. Korea was subjugated by ***an in about 1910 and driven down into a demoralized, degraded status. I think the ***anese even forced Koreans to change their names from traditional Korean names to ***anese names. This continued to the end of WW-II. At the end of WW-II, the South was allocated to the stewardship of the west (US? I'm not sure) while the North was allocated to the stewardship of China or Russia. Not much economic or social progress from the end of WW-II to the start of the Korean War in 1950. Hence, North Korea is probably in the condition it was in in 1920, and that was poor condition even for 1920, due to the ***anese exploitation and abuse of Korea.
North Korea has very limited means at its disposal. Without the help of the Chinese in the Korean War, it would have been over for North Korea then and there, in November 1950. I don't think the Chinese are going to sponsor any extra DMZ military adventures of North Korea.
Good things happen for Kim Il Jong when North Korea makes belligerant threats. Kim Il Jong's importance on the world stage is elevated and he looks more important and powerful to his people than he actually is. I think the best response to North Korea is to totally ignore it. No press coverage in any press anywhere. No diplomatic missions. Nothing.
i can understand why we would do certain drills to see what defenses the opposition would take to defend their territory,
so we could counter-act in the future...and that goes both ways.
but if changing the area we/they do drills will ease the tension, i mean come-on...no wonder we are all at arms if we cant figure this out.
certainly if i left a loaded cannon pointin at my neighbors house, he is gonna think something is up, he gonna get a rocket launcher and keep it in the window closest to me..far fetched, but same thing.

First, see my comments about how much we or anyone else have to fear from North Korea. My response to their threat is . . . Ha! Ha! Ha! What a joke! It is just about time for the annual propaganda materials to be distributed in North Korea praising the virtues and thriftiness of eating bark and twigs!
I assume the annual -- and hence CUSTOMARY and established by LONG PRACTICE -- military drills do not take place on the DMZ, the border with North Korea but rather in the interior of South Korea away from the DMZ. What right does North Korea have to make any comments about what South Korea and the United States do in the interior of South Korea? None. It is natural and understandable to perform these kinds of annual exercises if these two forces -- US and South Korea -- are serious about putting up a redoubtable defense. Practice under realistic circumstances are called for to iron out inter command communication issues, and to observe in actual actions how long it takes to get from point A to point B, what it takes up to set up and dig-in an artillery position, etc. Since many troops may not have been present at last years annual exercise, for a substantive number of troops this is a first time deal. Practice makes perfect. Probably if North Korea had not aggressively and punishingly attacked South Korea without provocation in 1950 there woudn't be any need to undertake these annual drills. So again, my response to North Korea would be I would turn around, I would bend over, and I would tell them to pucker up.
The real problem is Seoul is in artillery range of the North. If they did try something, it's tough to bomb someone "back to the Stone Age" when they're already there.
