In Manhattan,Ks. 1989, a small group of people got the city commission fly the U.N. flag at the city building.
A lot of people, including myself have tried for 14 yrs. to get it removed.
WE FINALLY GOT IT DONE.
If was taken down a couple of weeks ago and the city flag , that it had replaced, was put back up.
You can only imangine the " letters to the editor" that were written by the cry-babies that wanted it to remain.
I kept track of addresses and since last Saturday was Flag Day I spent some time driving by certain homes. Not only were they not flying the U.N. flag that they wanted to cram down everyone elses throats, I did not see one U.S. flag flying.
What a bunch of hipocritical liberals.(thats not what I would really like to call them)
I have to ask - why was the flying of the UN flag so horrible? I mean, I' m assuming it wasn' t occupying the top spot on the flag pole, but I' ve seen more ridiculous crap than that flying below Old Glory. Why the outrage over a flag that symobolizes our (ever dwindling) commitment to the world community? We were still part of the UN, last I checked.

WTG to the good people of Manhattan! (Kansas, that is)
I' d love to see this happening on a national level....matter of fact, if the US got out of the UN and they moved the HQ to Paris, France.....I' d be thrilled.
To refresh your memory, most states, counties and cities therein, including Kansas, have a provisio in their state statutes that mandates that no flag will be flown permanently within its boundaries other than those flags representing sovereign governments of the town, county, state and country (USA). The UN is not a sovereign government anywherre in this nation, other I suppose than a building in NYC that an errant airplane could take care of in a hurry.
Oh how horrible of me to even contemplate removing the UN from the US. THE SOONER THE BETTER!!!!!!!!!
Now to get them out of our schools.
My grand children knew what UN day is but didn' t know what Flag Day, Memorial Day or Veterans Day is about. They do now. This is when I wish I was still teaching in the local school system.
