House congressional aides said they expect leaders such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to tell colleagues that using all their parliamentary muscle to pass a health care bill -- even if it triggers withering criticism from the right -- is preferable to facing voters empty-handed this fall.
Are they just bent on political suicide? Barry has always attached his name to the works of others, does he really think that he's capable of writing a piece of legislation of his own that won't simply be a rehash of someone else's ideas? If they shut out the GOP and pass this turd they'll seal their own doom, surely even the most kool aid blinded among them realize the cost of defying John Q. Public when our wishes are obvious. Oops, I forgot about the midterms of Clinton1...

Democrats lose Mass (Ted Kennedy's former seat... the ones the Dem's have named their bill after)because the people want gov't health care blocked, yet Obama wants to move on with it. Obama wants the version that penalizes Americans for not buying this service -- probably the least favorable component of the whole idea of public health care. It will be interesting to see how this one fails.
There is a reason why BC&BS of Ca is hiking it's rates big time thia yeart. They know Obama will do what ever he wants. Damn the voters.

I would guess it is a desperate bluff. This has long been bandied about as a alternative course of action "if Republicans don't play ball."
Let's think about it for a minute. On the assumption the legislation we are talking about is substantially the legislation already voted on by the House and the Senate (there are some differences between these bills that House Democrats and Senate Democrats felt strongly about, so how these differences are resolved is not a trivial issue, but let's assume they can be resolved), the People have spoken . . . and it ain't in favor of that big steaming heap of ordure. Do Obama, Reid, and Pelosi think they can get the same Democrats to vote for this largely unchanged legislation TODAY?!!!
The House Democrats voted on the healthcare legislation a long time ago, what, September? I don't remember. Based on the public opinion polls that are pretty consistent on this score; based on the Democratic election defeats in Virginia, New Jersey, and most recently the Brown Senate election in Massachusetts; based on the way Democrats are announcing retirements left and right; do you really think all the Democrats who voted for the bill last time will vote for it again? I don't.
I think it is a very dicey matter whether the Democrats themselves will pass their own bill. I think they're interested in getting reelected, and voting for this healthcare bill is a big loser for them.
I say let the Democrats bring it on. It will be all the more stunning of a spanking in November.
I agree with Alsatian. I'm not sure that Obama can get 51 votes in the Senate. If he insists on pursuing this stupidity, I can see where the Senate will eventually change some of its' rules on what can be added to an existing bill. Also, Obama's actions are going to create further electoral damage for the Democrats in November. He doesn't get it and will easily be a 1-term President. The parallels between Obama and Carter are scary and will produce similar results--i.e. 1-term President, failed economic policies, major setbacks for the Democrats, etc.

I'm not sure that Obama can get 51 votes in the Senate.
There doesn't have to be another vote in the Senate if the house passes the same bill that already passed the Senate. That's the deal they claim they have worked out. Then the house will pass their corrections they want attached to budgets bills so it only needs the 51 votes.
It will be a disaster and I'm not sure it won't be overturned. Everyone's policy will see massive increases next year, there will be major job loses across the board. It won't be hard to point fingers to the direct cause.

I thought Obama said he had a plan when he addressed congress last year. We all know he don't lie, so why does he wait so long to to finally unveil his plan?
Maybe Joe Wilson was right.
