Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Sen. Bayh Retires

I'm a little surprised, with all the "rats leaving the ship" threads, that no one has mentioned this one. Says he's tired of the partisanship. Since he's got millions in his campaign fund, I wonder if the money will be returned to the donors, or if he'll use it to challenge Obama in 2012 for the Dem. slot.

Yep, senator Bayh is the son of former US senator Birch Bayh. Birch Bayh was sent packing by Dan Qualyle in the 1980 election. Both are dedicated anti-gunners. Bayh most likely foresaw a re-election campaign that he was likely to lose.

I believe the deadline for registering for the Democratic primary in Indiana is this Friday. Seems like that will make it kinda tough for them to scrape up a candidate for his seat...

Bayh didn't actually view Dan Coats as a valid competitor Falcon, but it's a good bet that he saw the handwriting on the wall. Backlash against the demoncraps will be as swift and certain this election as it was during the Klintoon years. Most of us in the Hoosier state are hoping that he doesn't use his warchest to run for governor again, with Daniels having to step down due to term limits the time would be ripe for Bayh to slide in, and with a commanding lead in funds.

Kevin1: Don't take this amiss -- it is not my intention to hammer on you, personally, but rather just to exercise some skepticism.

I had actually heard somewhere -- don't remember the source -- that there had been a very recent poll that in fact DID show Bayh significantly trailing Dan Coats. This same source suggested that this very recent poll was responsible for the particular timing. After all, if Bayh really didn't like Congress and didn't want to run again . . . why did he wait until now to announce this publically and leave his party in a rough spot vis a vis the deadline for registering for the ballot?

Alternatively, I also heard that Bayh may have been a little peeved at Harry Reid for pulling the carpet out from under the jobs bill last Thursday. This could be an explanation for the time of this late bailing on the part of Bayh.

I don't know what the answer is. I do feel, however, that the timing begs for an answer and that just not liking Congress is not an explanation for the timing issue.

I agree, those could very well have played a large part in his decision. Bayh is a savvy pol with an extensive background, he knows what's coming and wants no part of it. He could snag a private sector job and coast for a year or two until the smoke clears, then come back ready.

Sen. Bayh has long been considered a moderate in the democratic party. His recent support of Obammy's healthcare program has really tarnished that image though. I personally believe the reasons for his resignation are two-fold. First of all, I think he may consider a run for Gov. next time it comes up and secondly, most people in our state are very dissapointed in his support of the healthcare bill. It's funny how he voted for the healthcare bill and then the day after Brown's election to the senate, he says the dems have moved too far to the left and may be out of touch with main-stream America. Pretty ironic if you ask me. The polls that are yet to be made public do indicate he was far behind former senator Coats. The thing I'm most dissapointed about is the administration made all these "sweet deals" to win a few other moderates, like Ben Nelson and Mary Landreaux, but senator Bayh was kind of left out in the cold. Backroom deal-wise I mean.

That is because Bayh is not a prostitute, or a whore, he is just a common slut. You don't have to give a slut anything.

Hehehe I love it C Davis!! Good riddance to Bayh. Maybe he can talk Lord Rockefeller into resigning as well.
