"I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them if that's what you're asking. Our so called stealing of this country was just a question of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.... I'm quite sure that the concept of a Government-run reservation... seems to be what the socialists are working for now — to have everyone cared for from cradle to grave.... But you can't whine and bellyache 'cause somebody else got a break and you didn't, like those Indians are. We'll all be on a reservation soon if the socialists keep subsidizing groups like them with our tax money." 1971

A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.
The military said that he did far more for the cause by his visits to the troops in the war zone and his movies about military life than he ever could have as a foot soldier. He served in a different way.
Wayne obtained 3-A status, "deferred for [family] dependency reasons", my Dad avoided going to Viet Nam the same way. Both could have been drafted if the need arose, they just wouldn't have been the first group chosen.

Let's not go overboard about the Duke! He did make one crappy move about the military. "The Green Beret", I saw this movie while I was in Viet Nam, it was a freaking joke, a lousy comedy at best.
We left that tent with the thought, "who in the hell knows what we are going through here".
Makes no sense, no problem taking it but a big problem if it's taken by the socialists. In the Native American eye I would like to here how they described being taken. Wouldn't surprise me if their description of the takers doesn't fit well with our description of being taken by the socialist.
"They were being selfish" that's a killer Sounds like a socialist to me.

They didn't show movies when I was "in country." I think they had been invented by then............
I once spoke with a guy who was an expert in "Native American" law who told me the concept of "Possessory Interest" in land didn't exist in Indian culture (western anyway). A friend of mine once described indian reservations as pieces of land where people attempted to pile up more rusty crap than their neighbor. Pretty much sums it up, I'm not sure we did them any favors by putting them on reservations instead of having them assimilate. That "cradle to grave" government care is the kiss of death.
The u.S Government made hundreds of treaties with the Indians, not One was ever honored. However, they are still paying for it., and we will all probably be in that same boat if the current Mess we have in DC now has their way. Our constitution is headed the way of all of those treaties.
