Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

“Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war’s desolution

Blessed with victory and peace, may the Heaven-rescued land

Praise the Power that has made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, for our cause is just;

And this be our motto, “In God is our trust;”

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Francis Scott Key Written in 1814. 38 years after our declaration of independence.

The fourth verse of our national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner”
We only ever recite the first verse.
From an old book called “The Uplift Speaker” 1911

Some may not see what this is saying; claims have been made that the motto here was made up about 60 years ago. My comment on it was it just didn't need to be said before that, it was taken for granted.

When I picked this book up I was just looking at speaches that caught my attention and passed the SSB up saying to myself, "I know that one". I passed it again but on the third time it came to my mind that I couldn't remember reading it so I started and thought "what? this is way too long for just what I know".

Imagine my surprise when I finished it and thought back to some of the conversations we've had here.

It really is no surprise since the idea is hard not to find even with just causually looking, which I was doing again. I wasn't looking for it, it found me.

Thanks nodog. I will remember this. Good find.

It's always been there right under our nose said all the time out loud in groups of tens of thousands. Funny.

Might not even be recorded in newer history books. That's the problem with them. Most of these books I have were cheaply bought in a place where people drop them off for coffee money. Most have no idea the wealth that's on those shelves. What's this one worth? A lot more than the couple bucks we paid if that. Even has a chapter entitled "Pathetic Readings"

Not saying as time goes on things that come to light shouldn't be added, I just don't like it when things are left out and these days a lot of that happens. It will do us no good.
