Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Pat Robertson just shut up already

Didn't learn anything from his 9/11 comments obviously.

On his Christian Broadcasting Network’s “700 Club” today, Robertson said the Haitians “swore a pact to the devil” in order to become free of French domination.

“They said, ‘we will serve you if you will get us free from the French,’” Robertson asserted. “True story. And so, the devil said, ‘okay it's a deal.’ And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other.”

Pat is known for running his mouth without first engaging his brain. He claimed that God punished Ariel Sharon with a stroke.

Quote:
Conservative Christian evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson on Thursday linked Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke to God's “Enmity against those ‘who divide my land.’”

“He was dividing God's land and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations, or the United States of America," Robertson said on his television program, “The 700 Club," Broadcast from his Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach. “God says 'this land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.’”

This "pact with the devil thing" has been around long before this earthquake. I don't know know if they made a pact or not, but do know its widely thought of that some voodoo ceremony happened in 1792 I think. I think Pat is about silly myself, but in this instance, he is being taken out of context.

The Voudun religion was used as somewhat of a rallying point for the Haitian Revolution since it was the common religion among the slaves. But then again, many important revolutionaries were actually mixed blood free people of color who were inspired by the French Revolution and who would have been non-religious or Catholic.

Voudun emphasizes a mixture of acknowledgement of various African gods as well as Catholic Saints and ceremonies use a blend of "pagan" and Christian iconography. So, it is sometimes misrepresented as Satanism by folks who don't understand it.
