Default GOP Unhappy With Steele

Some GOP congressional aides are unhappy with RNC chairman Steele. Steele is defiant as usual.

The Democrat party apparatus is plagued by infighting between the so called "moderates" and the far lefters. This will be an interesting congressional election year.

Quote:
Top GOP congressional aides have demanded that their colleagues at the Republican National Committee rein in Chairman Michael Steele after Steele suggested House Republicans could not retake the majority this November.

House and Senate leadership aides used a conference call Wednesday with RNC staff to voice their latest frustrations with Steele, who said "not this year" when asked Jan. 4 on Fox News whether the GOP would win control of the House in 2010.

......................................

The fresh demands that the RNC find a way to control its chairman comes as top GOP donors have also started turning their backs on Steele's operation in favor of other campaign committees. Christine Toretti, a Pennsylvania RNC member and longtime GOP donor, told the Washington Times this week, "I don't plan to give to the Republican National Committee this cycle, and no other major donor I know is planning to either."

Steele has also come under harsh criticism for accepting paid speaking engagements while he is working as the RNC's chairman -- a job that includes giving numerous speeches to set the national message for the party. "I mean, your job is to give speeches. That's what you got elected to do," one Republican said.

An RNC spokeswoman declined to comment on staff discussions.
But in an interview with ABC News radio Thursday, Steele was defiant, telling his critics to "get out of the way."

"I'm telling them and I'm looking them in the eye and say I've had enough of it. If you don't want me in the job, fire me. But until then, shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way," he said.

Me thinks I smell a rat. Unhappy with the downward spiral of the Dems, Ol' Johnny boy needs to slow the upward movement of the Republicans and make stuff up.

Yep, FM, it is for sure a rat. Surely the Republicans must have their act together better than this. There is a vast conspiracy to make the Republican party look bad.

Steele has been embroiled in controversy all week after saying on Monday that he did not believe Republicans could win back their congressional majorities in the 2010 midterm elections. Asked by Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity on Monday night whether the GOP could take back the House, Steele said: "Not this year."

With the majority the dumbocrats hold in the house, it would be tough to take over in one election. I think they will make big gains in both houses but not take them over.

Steel is way to liberal to lead the party and is anti gun to boot. IMO he was a big mistake.

Steele is the worst mistake that the RNC has ever made.

Steele's election as RNCC was the biggest indication to that point that the GOP had lost its way. Clearly the Republicans needed to find a new front man. Mike Duncan is a good man, but he just wasn't cut out for RNC leadership.

Meanwhile, the Republicans have suffered huge Congressional losses in '06 and '08 and have lost the White House to a sophomore Senator, in no small part because disgruntled conservatives sat at home in November. So instead of realizing that they need to get back to their roots and bring the conservatives back to the fold by electing a chairman who embraces conservative values, they go out and get a moderate (at best), anti-gun black guy so they can prove that the Democrats aren't the only party capable of putting a black man in a position of leadership and reach out to minorities...in other words, reach out to minorities instead of conservatives.

It was a strategy so dumb and short-sighted that I would've thought a bunch of high school freshmen had pulled it off if I hadn't sat watching it play out on C-SPAN before my very eyes.

It's no surprise that we're sitting here a year later and the Republicans are grumbling about their chairman.

And just so my post is clear: There's nothing wrong with the GOP electing a black person as their chairman. I can think of a couple who would've been excellent conservative choices. It was their reasoning for doing it that exposed them as morons.

The Republicans need to retool and get their act together. With the emergence of Tea party candidates, I can see a lose-lose situation. I appreciate the Tea Party movement, but fear it might split the conservative vote. Which would mean the Demos, will win again, but this time by default.

I think the Tea Party will have a big effect on the future, I hate to see The GOP get on the wrong side here. The Tea Party might be our only shot at regaining even part time use of our own constitution.

Wait a little while. The Tea Partiers are going to fall under the GOP. They will force the more conservative candidats to run for office and win on the Republican ticket. However, go back to my first post. It was dead on. It's writen by someone unhappy with the Dem's dropping like a rock so we must stir stuff up.
