I think Obama agrees with you on this one. I think he believes that if we show the world that we are no better than them, and that we are not a threat, they will put down their arms, stop their nuclear ambitions, and the whole world will live in a utopia of love.
There are two rules of thought here. There is the one above that I described. These people don't think we should show a superiority militarily. They think that if we have the same kind of gun the enemy has than it is a fair and righteous fight.
The other rule of thought here is the one I aspire to. I believe America is and should be exceptional. We have been the beacon of hope, liberty, and opportunity for the whole world to see. The flood of people who have come to this country legally, and illegally is a testament to that. When it comes to war, I don't believe in a perfectly fair fight. I wan't what the enemy does not have, and I want them to know just enough about it so that we don't have to use it. You can call it fear. The Bible uses the world fear too. Fear and respect is not a bad thing. The fear of the sound of a belt whistling though my dad's belt loops kept me out of a lot of trouble.
We presently still have something special in America that the rest of the world wants, or the enemy want's to destroy. I don't believe the role of the government is to dole out little bits of that to it's citizens that it deems fit. If we are going broke doing anything, it is that. I think the role of the government is to defend what each and every American already has. And we better do and have whatever it takes to defend it.
