2 Sheriff's Deputies Shot in Washington State

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

EATONVILLE, Wash. — Authorities in Washington state say a man has died and two Pierce County sheriff's deputies have been critically injured in a shooting outside Tacoma.

Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said the two deputies were shot Monday at 8:48 p.m. while responding to a domestic violence dispute between two brothers. One of the brothers wanted the other out of the house, Troyer said.

The sheriff's deputies were greeted at the door by one brother, Troyer said, while the other brother was in the house arming himself.

Troyer said the second brother opened fire on the deputies, hitting one multiple times, but the deputies were able to return fire and kill the suspect.

One officer was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The other has been taken to Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma.

There are a number of occupations that I would never want. Police officer is one of them.

Thankless job overall to say the least.

I agree, never even as a boy did I ever want to be a fireman or Cop. Makes you wonder how they get so many recruits?

Let me see now. It's exciting, pays pretty well, has a decent retirement and after you grow up some more, you realize you get to help people during the worst times of their lives and make a positive difference. For the most part, you also get to do a job you love doing. JMHO but it's from 19 years worth of personal experience.

It's like fishing, ..... you throw your line in and never know what's happening next. And CalHunter nailed it with this statement, ..."you get to help people during the worst times of their lives and make a positive difference," Amen.

I wasn't knocking it, Cal. I'm saying I wouldn't have the patience needed for the public in general when they're often at their worst (drunk, desperate, etc).

Can you imagine the carnage if I were handed a badge and a gun?

Carnage..............what do you call the beatings you serve up with just a keyboard. You don't need a badge and a gun.......just your intellect.

Cal thanks for doing a job that benefits us all. Stay smart and stay safe....Frank

Merry Christmas Static and good to see you again old friend. VC, I knew you weren't knocking it. And, believe it or not, I think you would do well as a cop.
