Because of a Georgia supreme court ruling in another teacher-student sex case, a judge reluctantly dismissed that case against a GA teacher who had sex with a 17 year old student.
MARIIETTA, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - The case against a high school teacher accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student was dismissed Wednesday. The judge said that, even though the relationship was despicable, it was consensual and therefore not illegal.
Thirty-six-year-old Christopher King was charged back in May with having sex with a 17-year-old Marietta High School student several times.
Authorities said the alleged assaults took place at King's home throughout the month of April.
It's crazy to me all these states having different ages of consent. This same guy in another state, teacher or not would be a 36yo with a underage girl, but in GA it's legal? In another state he'd be a felon/convicted sex offender. So this guy is legal/gets off in GA but a young man in another state hooks up with a girl and gets the book thrown at him, not saying either is right, but we should put things in perspective.
I remember being shocked when I found out some states age of consent was under 18, I just assumed every state was 18, then come to find out, about a third were 17, and another third were 16?
Sadly, I almost expect to see federal regulations authorizing student/teacher sex as a form of sex education, considering that Obama has appointed a "Safe Schools Czar" with ties to NAMBLA and having a very "liberal" view on sexually explicit literature for children....
Age of consent is 16 in many places. When I was in the Navy, 16 was the age back then.
