WASHINGTON – A Defense Department worker on a terrorism task force looked into Fort Hood shooting suspect Nidal Hasan's background months ago, officials said Tuesday — providing fresh evidence the military knew worrisome details about the Army psychiatrist before the shooting rampage.
Two officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case on the record said the Washington-based joint terrorism task force overseen by the FBI was notified of communications between Hasan and a radical imam overseas, and the information was turned over to a Defense Criminal Investigative Service employee assigned to the task force.
That worker wrote up an assessment of Hasan after reviewing the Army major's personnel file and the communications. The assessment concluded Hasan did not merit further investigation, in large part because his communications with the imam were centered around a research paper he was writing at the time, and the investigator had concluded Hasan was in fact working on such a paper, the officials said.
The disclosure came as questions swirled about whether opportunities were missed to head off the massacre and the FBI launched its own internal review of how it handled the early information about Hasan. Military, law enforcement and intelligence agencies are all defending themselves against tough questions about what each of them knew about Hasan before he allegedly opened fire in a crowded room at the huge military base in Texas.
why would he need to sign anything. I heard on the news that lawyer thought he would not get a far trial or jury. my thinking was he ant going to get a normal jury it is military court. He will get 12 white men and woman maybe a black guy in there all service men and woman who will hang his butt out on the side of a destroyer. He said he had talked to hasan and said he knew he was a suspect in the case. Suspect. He was shot when he was shooting people. Heck why ant they shot him yet.

Unless some panjandrum in the white house or the cabinet intervenes, Mr. Jihad Hasan will get court-martialed just like BigTim said. Hasan will be sentenced to death. Having said that, the military has not executed anyone in a very long time.
Unless i am mistaken there are eight former GIs who are awaiting execution. President Bush authorized the execution of a serial murderer named Gray last year but it did not happen on his watch. It most likely will not happen on Obama's watch either for obvious reasons: Military executions are one of the PC subjects in US politics. Five or six of the military death row residents are black and one is Asian. Never mind that the scumbags are quilty as hell: They are unlikely to be executed anytime soon.
I'm surprised Obama hasn't called for a stay of John Allen Mohammed's execution in 24 minutes!
He is not allowed to give any states death row inmate a stay. This came up when the so called world court ordered the US to stay the executions of three Mexicans.
Having said that, the military has not executed anyone in a very long time.
True, but when's the last time they had a "terrorist" that killed thier own on trial? This man is no different than those that piloted the airliners on 9-11!

It gets much worse. The military CID guy who gave Hasan a pass was working on a "joint terrorism task force" run by the FBI. The folks on this task force are not allowed to tell the agency that they work for what transpires with suspects who come under the control of that agency. What a scummy deal this is: Looks like something that was put together by the ACLU.
The senior defense official said neither the Army nor any other part of the Defense Department knew of Hasan's contacts with any Muslim extremists. But the defense official carefully conceded this view was based upon what the Pentagon knows now.
Hours later, the same senior defense official reiterated that the Defense Department was not notified before the Fort Hood massacre of investigations into Hasan, despite the participation of two Defense Department investigators on two joint task forces run by the FBI that looked at Hasan. This defense official asserted that the task force ground rules barred any members from telling their home agency about task force findings without approval of the other investigators and wasn't aware of whether there was ever any discussion of doing that.

He should die by the firing squad. I hope all but the last one to shoot is a bad shot. I have the feeling that after they check out all his stuff and computers they will find out that this was terrorism not just a nut job. Muslims in the military just doesn't make sense to me.
