It's hard to say which is the stronger influence, their religion or their culture in general. Of course the religion doesn't place any strong bars on this kind of behavior. That is, killing your daughters for violating the cultural traditions. It's always a daughter though. You never hear about a Muslim daddy killing hs son for hanging out with a Christian girl or wearing Western clothes.

Many conservative or westernized, Muslims say that this type of violence is part of the old Arab culture. Just as many misinformed Catholics think it's okay to murder babies. They might even believe this, but if you study Islam, you can find plenty justification for these actions within their doctrine. This is why there can never be peace as long as there is Islam, as it is today. Even if by some miracle, you can change the minds of the millions of what we call, extremist Muslims around the world the teachings of Islam, unless changed, order Muslims to live just as the extremist Muslims live.

For example, we no longer stone adulterers, we don't keep slaves, we don't require a man to marry his brother's widow, we do allow women to divorce their husbands, and we allow our daughters to choose their husbands, etc. So we have made a lot of progress separating our society from many of the practices prescribed by the Bible and I think the Muslims can too, although it may take awhile.
Some of our Christian brothers and sisters may need to move in that direction as well.

The honor killing of daughters is not totally peculiar to Muslims. There have been some cases of Arab Christians killing their daughters for bringing "shame" on the family.
There is some truth in what you say. But our Bible promotes various practices which our culture has overridden. You're comparing apples to oranges. First off, Jesus brought us the new covenant or the new law, which supersedes parts of the Old Testament. Also, Christians believe that most of the Bible was written by men, inspired by the Holy Spirit. Not God's word dictated by men, the way the Koran is believed to have been. The Bible is also both, a moral guideline and a history book. Not a word for word instruction for life, the way the Koran is supposed to be. There's a huge difference. Yes, parts of the Bible are direct dictations from God -like the 10 commandments. If you are Catholic, which I think I've seen you mention, you believe that Jesus left the Apostles in charge of His Church on earth. While the Church hasn't always been perfect, even from the top, Catholics believe the Church's teachings have been. This is why in over 2,000 years the Catholic Church has never changed one of Her teachings.
You mention separating our religious practices from society as if we learned how to do this on our own, but you're wrong. Jesus instructed us to do this Himself. In the Koran however, and remember these verses are direct messages from God, the opposite is true. In the Koran and in Muhammad's Hadiths, God leaves instructions on everything from how the economy should be managed to how to wipe your a$$ (pardon my hillbilly).
As with the Bible there is no doubt, abrogation in the Koran. In the Bible however, there aren't many arguments where and why something is abrogated (or at least what is argued about generally doesn't have to do with God commanding violence). Abrogation in the Koran is a little more complicated though, but no matter how you look at it, unless they admit that the Koran isn't a perfect dictation from God, violent Jihad is commanded.
