Thumbs down Another reason I don't like CA

I know my military career will eventually see me stationed somewhere in California but I'm doing all I can to stay out of that state. Here's yet another reason why....

From: NRA-ILA

"Governator" And California Lawmakers Approve Firearm Owner Registration Scheme: This week, Governor Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) signed yet another severe, but impotent gun control measure into law. Assembly Bill 962, which takes effect on February 1, 2011, mandates individuals purchasing ammunition to be fingerprinted and registered at the time of sale and outlaws mail order ammunition purchases. AB 962 will also require dealers to maintain these records indefinitely and make them available for inspection by the California Department of Justice. As an additional burden, ammunition retailers will also be required to store ammunition away from purchasers. AB 962 failed to garner support from Attorney General Brown, or any law enforcement organization. In fact, 15 sheriffs wrote letters of opposition to this legislation.

I don't even like to go there on business. I have to make a trip to Bakersfield soon, and I'm dreading it.

What I think is really incredible is that the Cal. state reps. will not catch any flak for that kind of legislation. If that happened here, I don't know if our people would even stand waiting for the next election cycle. It would be pretty ugly.

I hear that. I was stationed in Yuma, AZ (spitting distance from CA) for 4 years. We had to go to some of the bases in CA often and I dreaded it every time. I hate their stupid liberal laws, how expensive everything is, and how many darn people live there. The only good part about CA IMHO is Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. I actually endured the dread of driving in CA to go see those places a couple times.

It looks like a real stroke of luck for me that my mom got moved from California to Michigan before I was born.

I was stationed in Petaluma, CA (US Coast Guard Yeoman "A" School) back in Jan-May of 1980. Back then it wasn't so bad, but it was bad enough. Today, I wouldn't recommend ANYONE get stationed/move to California!

Memories (both good & bad)

- Getting smashed on bottles of Tequila on weekend liberty over at Dillon Beach (just north of Point Reyes Seashore).
- Going camping somewhere up in the Redwood Nat'l Forest up Route 101. Me and my buddies crashed a campground at 2:00am and had a blast.
- Going to San Francisco and getting lost.
- Going to San Francisco and seeing two gay guys walk down the street arm in arm, then lock lips in front of everyone.
- Feeling a mild earthquake tremor.
- Just before graduation... Watching the news about Mt. Saint Helens blowing up, then going outside and looking due north/northeast and seeing a hazy atmosphere/horizon.
- Worst of all... Missing the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, NY! (I grew up around there, and finished high school up in the Adirondacks. Heck, the Olympics were darn near in my backyard!!)

SW Thomas: CA is a very good state to for the a military guy to avoid for another reason. Several years ago the state of CA came after a share of the state tax on my military retirement because i was stationed there in the 60s. Then i found out that the impoverished state of CA often does that.

SWT, avoiding being stationed there is as simple as filling out a dream sheet with a place you'd normally rather not go that your branch is undermanned in, and nearly anything would be better than Kookifagia. Well...maybe not Twentynine Palms...
