Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Obama Tilts Wrong Way on Afghanistan

Obama will likely accept some Taliban involvement in the Afghan government while concentrating on taking out al Queda. This is absolutely the wrong way to go. The Pakistanis are now taking the fight to the Taliban and al Queda: Obama's plan will undercut their efforts. The distinction between the Taliban and al Queda is a blurry one. For all intents and purposes the Taliban is al Queda.

Obama will cater to the far left wing of the Democrat party and limit US military involvement in Afghanistan against the advice of his senior military leaders. Obama's plan to allow the Taliban to control rural Afghanistan while protecting the cities absolutely will not work. Sadly, we will probably not win this one.

Though aides stress that the president's final decision on any changes is still at least two weeks away, the emerging thinking suggests that he would be very unlikely to favor a large military increase of the kind being advocated by the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

............................

But the U.S. would fight only to keep the Taliban from retaking control of Afghanistan's central government — something it is now far from being capable of — and from giving renewed sanctuary in Afghanistan to al-Qaida, the official said.

If we choose to fight we need to fight to win. Taliban and AQ are both on the same side...against us. Trusting any of those people is a mistake and expecting a democratic government initiated by the west to stand over time is not going to happen. It looks like our direct involvement with Iraq is coming to a close and so should the war in Afghanistan. If AQ is there we need to hit them and get it over with. If they flee to Pakistan we need to follow them and take them out. War is war and if it involves civilian casualties too bad. It didn't bother them when they took out the 2 towers in NY. We would have had Bin Ladin at Tora Bora but we instead chose to get PC and let the warlords do it. Like I said you can't trust any of them...here or there.

Obama must be smoking cracke, he obviously forgot that the Taliban had sheltered Al Queda and even provided the land, weapons and financing for the training camps.

You said it right when you pointed out Pakistan at our urging took the fight to them. There's no wonder why Afghanistan is heating back up. Iraq they lost and now their safe havens are in jepardy. If Obama does this, he is under cutting our credibility around the world not rebuilding it. He is doing more damage than ever could be imagined. It will take decades to rebuild unlike this BS the left attempted to throw out there about Bush.

There is no possible way Obama can win in A-Stan. Alexander the Great couldn't do it, the British couldn't do it, the Soviets couldn't do it, so how can Obama win? I do believe this war is somewhat necessary in order to pin down the terrorists from plotting attacks, but we can not win. Plain and simple. No army has ever conquered and held the country and we will not be any different.

I didn't realize that we wanted to conquer the country and hold it as our own. When has this ever been the plan?

Yes yes, let me rephrase it. We can never stamp out the resistance (Taliban, Al-Qaeda) just as those armies I listed couldn't. We can inflict damage upon them but they will always be there.
