Honestly, haven't the last four Olympics or so been economic curses for the host cities? Why would a city want the job nowadays? Is the international spotlight ealy that important?

That's good. At first I silently guffawed about this. Then I paused and thought. Maybe this will actually happen? Let's wait and see.
I would observe that for much of the rest of the world the image of Chicago that they carry is one associated with 1930's era gansters. When visiting France in 1981 and saying that I was from Chicago to some guy who started a conversation with me in a bar, the guy immediately put held his two hands to shoot an imaginary tommy gun! Clearly a stereotype that they had developed about Chicago. I don't imagine this stereotype was very helpful in persuading others to vote for Chicago.
But I'm thinking we are going to hear some blame for this conved to GW Bush. You know, I'm leaving for a Colorado Elk hunt next Monday. If I don't score, I'm going to blame that on GW Bush too! If it works for everyone else, why can't I expropriate this as my excuse as well?!!!
