Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Government is now trying to take over all student loans.

This is unbelieveable except it's happening right before our very eyes. Obama has taken over the banks, the car companies, going after health insurance companies and now student loans. Did we elect Hugo Chavez or what? Next it will be the oil companies, the the phone and cable companies.

Student Loans? Government taking over you say?

The only "student loans" that I have ever heard of were "government" loans/subsidized rates, etc.

Kinda like saying "OMG! McDonalds is making CHEESEBURGERS!!!!!!!!!!!"

Watch out! Microsoft is putting out a "WEB-BROWSER"

AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaGGGGGHHHHHH!

Head for the hills!

Fieldmouse, I believe that's the plan of this administration. They believe that they can better run our lives. After all Obama did say we ought to look at the infrastructure of China, and from what I remember he praised them.

I do have to agree with you on this, they are government loans. So I don't have a problem with that, I have a problem with the rest of his intentions.

Sorry tex, most of use actually know how to read news papers and magazines and occasionally watch real news not MSN or CNN. This just passed the house yesterday. Student loans have always been privately administered for the most part. However, this administration now wants direct control of the loans and that means who they go to. This is very bad for America. It represents more government control in the name of reform. Please tell me why every dictator uses the term reform just befor they take control of the private sector?

I must ask you two things. Would you be so for gving if Bush tried to do this? Where in the constitution is it writen the federal government should control student loans for colleges?

There is a big difference. Presently, the loans are not subsidized. They are guaranteed against default. The government does set the rules and interest rates, but right now the loans are through private lenders, insured by the government if they go into default. In other words, you don't deal with the government unless you decide to not pay it back.

From what I understand, this bill if it passes will take the loans completely out of the private lenders hands and the loans will come straight from the government. It is another big government power grab from the private sector. Banks won't get those interest rates, and I doubt the government will give them interest free. I have no doubt Obama would love to put a czar in control over who qualifies. He may have political contribution, and email records to help make that decision.

I was pretty PO'ed to hear about this crap. Banks need to be banks, not Uncle Sam. If I can't get private education loans, I'll have to pick between an MA and a JD instead of going after both...

Here is what this will lead to. Government will decide who get's the loan not who could really pay it back (have you ever heard such a thing?). Government will get into the business of forgiving student loans based on race and diversity or voter base to ensure they can get reelected. Don't worry guys, gulf and the grammar school teacher will tell you this is ok.
