Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default This may get ugly

Given the situation in Washington and the nation as a whole, the partisan divide is growing more polarized and nutty by the day. It is likely that things far more unseemly than the run-of-the-mill rancor will ensue over the next few months. Protests on both sides may turn violent and who knows what else.

If cooler heads on both sides don't step up and kick a few nut-cases back in line we'll have chaos, much to the detriment of our Great Republic. Hatred and vitriol, which seem to have the upper hand in a growing segment of each major party are never good bases for effective decission making, which is exactly what we are paying our law makers to do. Apparently we don't have to be Islamists to start the journey down the path of radical absolutism.

Let's hang together before we hang separately.

May be. I am referring to a potentially dramatic escallation on both sides which will not be good for America as a whole, and may effectively shut down legislative action totally - in a type of hostile gridlock we've never seen before.

That would be awesome and certainly a goal I'm looking for. Everytime congress meets, a little bit of our freedom is lost.

Grid lock is exactly what our fore fathers were shooting for. Look at how they set up the government structure in the first place. Passing laws was meant to be a slow process. However, executing war for the safety of our country is to be quick and decisive with one commander and cheif.

Why the "gridlock?" I thought the dems. controlled everything. This obviously is a problem between the democrats and their constituents, and nothing else.

The republicans can still filibuster any bill in the senate - in theory. Gridlock won't serve either party. Americans as a majority want some type of healthcare reform. Obama says so, and Boustany, in the republican rebuttal said "Americans want healthcare reform". So on that point, with some inevitable compromises on both sides, both parties agree healthcare reform needs doing and both indicate a MAJORITY of Americans watch some type of reform. Thus if reform gets unilaterally scuttled by a minority, that minority has effectively sabotaged the legislative process and disenfranchised a majority who want their elected officials to take action on healthcare.

Bad thing.

Good point C. They control everything yet can't get healthcare passed in the normal fashion. Isn't it funny how some on this forum try and claim the Republicans are in disarray.
