I haven't searched the details yet but someone told me Obama is planning a speech that public school children are going to be required to watch. This is supposed to happen on Sep. 8th. I got my start on this board arguing about the parallels of Obama and Hitler...I'm not trying to revisit that subject with this thread. Even though the parallels are more evident than ever, I wasn't then, and I'm not now, indicating that Obama has a genocidal agenda.
My children are home schooled so, thank God, I don't have to worry about this kind of propaganda. My question is to you folks who do have children in Public school; are you going to send your kids to school that day? Why or why not? Does anyone send their children to private schools who are planning on showing this speech?

The feds can't "require" any public school to force children to view anything.
Your premis in null and void.
Individual teachers may or may not wish to have students view a speech by the president, but that is their choice in their classroom as to whether it is relevant to the lesson they are teaching or their curriculum.
Speeches by the president(s) are commonly viewed in civics/history/science classes depending on the relevance.
I remeber seeing JFK's speech about the moon missions and "ask not what your country can do for you" several times in public schools, and President Bush was shown on CNN (according to many of my teacher friends) after 9-11 and on several important occasions thereafter.
It's no big deal for the prez to get some classroom air time.
Your hatred for Obama and the democrats blinds you to the truth young Padawan.

There is something of a difference. JFK made a speech; it was recorded; it was subsequently shown to school children after screening by adults, possibly long after Kennedy was deceased. Obama is going to direct his speech to school children; we don't know what the theme will be; could he be trying to influence acceptance of his current policies through brainwashing our children (not a possible motivation of the dead Kennedy speech). Since he has so often lied to us ("we will be bipartisan," "I'm not a socialist," "we will not kow-tow to lobbyists," "we will run a transparent government," etc.), please excuse us if we distrust him.
I gave pretty serious thought about keeping my 7th grader home from school this day. I began to rethink in the shower this morning. It would be nice to know what Obama plans to say to our malleable children. Encourage them to work hard in school and deliver a message that they need to work hard academically to improve themselves and overcome disadvantages that their circumstances may have put in front of them? That might be OK.

Ok, you're right, the feds can't force it; that wasn't the point though. Indicating that individual public school teachers will have a choice is a joke btw. You can't compare JFK's speech about the moon missions to what Obama is doing. What important occasion is this, other than more face time for Obama with Obama's youth?
Your hatred for truth is what blinds you, Qui-Gon. I fear Obama and the democrats; it isn't hatred.
My question is to parents who have children attending public school. Are you going to keep them home that day and if so, why? Also, has the school informed you of the speech?

I think a transcript should be sent home to parents ahead of time. I'm sure that's not going to happen though.
Part of the instructions (this is hearsay on my part) to the teachers is to discuss how and why children should listen to the POTUS and other political leaders. That's just f***ing scary. I want my children to question everything any politician says. Just like they should question anything a priest says, a scientist says, and especially a journalist says.

Here are the notes that teachers are supposed to read before and after the viewing. He is obviously going to ask the youth to help him with something probably health care. Kids are too easy to suggest to. Give me some prescreened notes to view.
If other presidents have done this before... none of them were socialists pushers.

Public schools play a big part in the destruction of our constitution.
I have a friend that just yesterday was told his grandaughter had to cut her hair, because the teacher thought it was to long. What the hey is that ?? And at the same time the Male gender teacher is openly gay in the classroom. At times even calling some students sexy. Even Obamas kids never attended a public school. See he dont even trust them.
What resonated with you from President Obama’s speech?
What lines/phrases do you remember?
Who is President Obama addressing? How do you know? Describe his audience.
We heard President Obama mention the importance of personal responsibility. In your life, who exemplifies this kind of personal responsibility? How? Give examples.
How are we as individuals and as a class similar? Different?
Suppose President Obama were to give another speech about being educationally successful. Who could he speak to next? Who should be his next audience? Why? What would he say?
What are the three most important words in the speech? Rank them. What title would you give this speech?
What’s the thesis?
What is President Obama inspiring you to do? What is he challenging you to do?
What do you believe are the challenges of your generation?
How can you be a part of addressing these challenges?
words can not describe my horror upon review of the above lesson plans.
I see no point in wasting the time of the kids on this garbage. Mine won't be.
Hey boysda, nice slim down version on what's in the document. I encourage eveyone to click on the link and read the indoctrination that will be encouraged by a teacher work force that is in bed for the most part with the Democrat party. Then come back an let me know if this should be going on and is the role of the President.
