...but it is a shame that the issue was not properly addressed till it got to these people (the majority in charge).

I don't know what has been tried, but I believe there has been attempts at Tort reform.

The situation is now grave. The politics swirling around this are as thick as any I can remember. "Bipartisanship" has nothing to do with it.

What makes it any more "grave" now that it was 10 years ago? 5 years ago? 2 years ago? Seriously--no sarcasm intended here.
I keep hearing this 40-something million uninsured, which I really don't believe at all--or rather, is very misleading. A majority of these are accounted for with people who simply choose not to buy insurance, and illegals. Most of those left are already on a "single payer" plan, via Medicare/Medicaid, and we see what kind of mess it is.
As I understand it, insurance is super regulated already. One thing that's been brought up is allowing companies to compete across state lines, getting rid of idiotic special interest mandates, like one state requireing insurance companies to cover a boob job, another a sex change, another hair transplants, etc. That, Tort reform, and getting illegals off the gov't teat would go a LONG way towards making insurance a lot more affordable. It's so simple--but it will never happen.
