Default Clunkers dead...

Cash for Clunkers ends Monday...didn't some of you say it was a HUGE success??

I wonder if the dealers will ever get paid?

I was never for that in the first place all it did was berry some cars that the poor income people could have used in the future. it is going to put the used parts for older cars and trucks obsolite. drive our taxes higher and the repo man will be busy taking all those cars away in a few years because no one has jobs to pay the bill.

They consider it big success, people took the free money for cars. Free hell, someone has to pay for them. All they did was sell some cars now that would have been sold later without the tax payers funding them. Just plain stupid.

I think this was a big mistake. First the government says it will throw all this money around. Then a perfectly good vehicle, in most cases, is destroyed. No resale, no help to those who cannot afford a new vehicle. And now we are seeing dealers not getting paid back. Some dealers are in the hole for hundreds of thousands of dollars, up to millions of dollars in some cases. These dealers are well beyond the 10 day pay back period. I think this will be yet another turd in the punch bowl for Obama. Especially on the hills of his praise.

I watched a piece on the news and they said about 7% of the deals completed had money already paid back to the dealerships. They showed the lots full of what I would say were not clunkers but good running late model cars and trucks. I watched one Dodge pickup that was similar in color to the only Dodge I ever owned and it looked like it was an early 2000's truck. The truck didn't have any rust, was shiny and the engine sounded great. They poured something into the oil and then drove it around the lot for 2 minutes until the engine seized. What a waste. The only ones to benefit from this folly was the government and their new business Government Motors. Wait until all the low income earners default on that new auto loan for something they didn’t need. By then Obama’s Socialism will be well established and they will be bailed out too.

Can't the dealers start charging interest after 30 days?

The government choose to by pass millions who owned cars they were completely happy with and bail out a few people who hated the cars they bought in the past.

I understand the dealerships have been getting some "help" from the car companies. The help is probably in the form of not having to pay for the new car sold until they get the completed deal from the government. It is like one hand paying the other and then back again. Of course there is a deal..... government motors is the government. We have been taken once again. Just like when the failing banks were given money to use for making loans and instead they gave themselves big bonuses and hoarded the money.

These cars that were turned in weren't bad cars and trucks. I thought the lots would be filled with dent magnets but instead they look like good used cars...all now with blown engines. The odd part at least to me is that they had to be practically worthless to get the 3500 or 4500 rebate. I don't know what type of scam the dealerships were playing but those cars and trucks I saw were worth at least 4500 or so it appeared to me.

I wonder if the Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Hyundai etc... dealers are getting help from their manufacturer or if its only Government Motors helping their dealers??

I saw one guy trade in a Maserati!! Almost all the "clunkers" I saw in the news were in great shape!
