Everyone in ***an is required to get a health insurance policy, either at work or through a community-based insurer. The government picks up the tab for those who are too poor.
It's a model of social insurance that is used in many wealthy countries. But it's definitely not "socialized medicine." Eighty percent of ***an's hospitals are privately owned more than in the United States and almost every doctor's office is a private business.
I don't think the ***anese have as many bad eating habits as we Americans do. I suspect that might make a difference too. Of course as time goes on, that will change. Whatever goes into McDonald's burgers to make them addictive will affect the ***anese, and the Chinese, etc. just as it does Americans.

I'll have to do some research on it, but before I do, I'm going to bet that the percentage of people on welfare in ***an is way lower than it is here.

5 % of the U.S. population is on public assistance 1% of the federal budget is devoted to welfare or public assistance for the poor. Yet Aid to Families with Dependent Children was the only government entitlement program politicians sought to reform. 12 % of the federal budget is devoted to welfare for the middle class and wealthy in the form of tax credits, no interest mortgages, home investment incentives.

I've been in ***anese hospitals twice. The level of care there sucks compared to here in the USA. Because the hospitals can't make any money, people have literally died on the streets because the hospitals couldn't/wouldn't take another patient.
My one uncle died in his 40's and another died in his 50's in ***an. The one who died in his 40's was never given any real test when he went in repeatedly with complaints of back/abdominal pain. He was simply given pain medication. He ended up dying of some type of liver ailment that never was truly diagnosed.
My other uncle had bladder cancer but it was not caught or treated like it would be here.
There are a lot of things I like about ***an. Their healthcare system is NOT one of them.

There you go....we are not a wealthy nation when we are 11 trillion dollars in debt. We are broke a$$ and we can't pick up the bill for everyone so they will not have hardships in their life. Sorry but true.

FYI, ***an had what is commonly refered to the lost decade. Hmmm, not sure we want that here even though Obama is working hard to bring us just that.
On the other hand, there is a large nation close by with large single digit growth and they don't have national healthcare.

My wife has been offered to come back from her retirement for a six figure income. She asked me what she should do, I told her to get back to work we have a lot of people to insure.
