Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default So what's the plan?

Despite all our arguing and name calling in here, there seems to be a lot of common ground.

So we all seem to agree on the following:
  1. Obama sucks. That was easy!
  2. Government over-regulates the industries to the point of driving them away or out of business.
  3. Government run bureaucracies tend to be poorly run and cost way too much money.
  4. Immigration, both legal and illegal, is out of control.
  5. The second Amendment is under attack (yet again).
So here's the question. What's the plan as American citizens? Calling and writing to our leaders is one way, but it seems largely ineffective. Screaming at each other on this forum only seems to divide people who should be united.

What else can we do? What can we do to really get their attention? No, I'm not talking armed revolution! That's not gonna work. But what would? What would be effective if we got the word out somehow that would make a real difference? And how do we get that word out?

I don't agree that the system doesn't work. I would not look at the last 9 months and say the system doesn't work. What did Lincoln say about you can fool all of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time? My wager is that there will be substantial re-alignment in the Senate and the House in the 2010 election cycle. Where would we be today if there were a Republican majority in one of the House or the Senate? Probably a lot more on level ground. Even considering the Obama election, had some events gone differently -- if the September stock market meltdown had not occured -- we might have an entirely different situation right now.

There are some other things I don't like and fear even with a Republican in the presidency these problems may have continued. Why with a dominant Republican position back in 2004 did we have deep deficit spending? Why didn't the Republicans execise fiscal responsibility when they dominated the government? That is of some concern to me. Also, why didn't the Republicans address the illegal immigration issue? Again, that concerns me a lot. A lack of principles and a lack of backbone is all I can speculate. I don't like that, but I won't vote for a Democrat (not until they give up their propensities to increase gun control, to increase domestic spending, and to increase taxes).

For my part, I'm not willing to dedicate my life to political activity or a substantial part of my leisure time to political activity. I inform myself as best I can. I vote. I share my thoughts with others. If the system goes to hell, I'll try to game the system as best I can to live as well as possible. There are other things I want to spend my time doing.

Get involved at any level that you can, Get your friends and family to contact all of their reps, VERY OFTEN. Get as self sufficient as you possibly can, As Chuck said, get right with God.

Watch Beck and do as he suggests for getting involved.

Well, it's just not that easy to throw them out. And if that's the best solution, how do you suggest we do that and how do we get people to agree that's the best way?

You know Chuck, I'm not sure this is on the level of Bible prophecy. It's no the first time we've had an S bag president that seemed to be bringing about the end of our country. Hell, we elected Carter at one point.

Well, good points are being made by all....I would think the surest solution is a non-selective one....it's bipartisan, and it's 100% effective. DO NOT VOTE FOR AN INCUMBENT REPRESENTATIVE. It's plain that each and every one of our elected officials are being led by the nose to do what the PARTY wants done, and to hell with the constituency. You write your reps and they tell you thank you but you're wrong and then tell you what they're going to do which is not at all what you need to be done. I do not know what kind of mess we'd end up with if there were NO experienced members of congress come the end of the first week of November in 2010, but at least there'd be a good healthy congressional respect for the voter !!! And that's the first step to effective REPRESENTATION not RULE !

Kudos to what Alsatian said. We refused to hold the Republicans feet to the fire when they ran everything. Now we have something worse for awhile.
