Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default So Long Walter

Any of you around my age probably watched Walter Cronkite cover all of the big stories of our time. A real pioneer in the TV Anchor business. I wish the best for his family and will never forget how he was probably one of the most trusted people on earth. There are not many around today as talented at unbiased reporting of the news, Just the Facts.

Yep, so long Walter. Walter waited until US troops whipped the crap out of the VC and NVA during Tet in 1968. Then he made his anti-war speech. i never liked the guy after that.

I thought he was already dead, he was a real pioneer alright. He set the stage for inserting his anti-war views, he set the stage. Now there are no more news sources that present the news without their left or right wing twist.

I always thought of him as the voice and conscience of America.

He stayed with the War in Vietnam as long as he could but could see that because of politics, we were going to loose that war. He waded in with the troops on D day and covered most of the big battles of WW ll.

Not a perfect person? No, but one of the best ever at what he did.

I can think of at least 5 instances earlier in my life that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time, and Walter was there. I saw a poll asking if he was the best anchor ever....by the results I see where we still have some of the Greatest generation left, since the only other support was about 7% to Edward R Murrow.

Edward R Murrow, Is the other one that I recall listening to as a kid. However, Walter is the most remembered for many of us older guys. He saw a lot of changes since 1916 when he was born..

BTW, it is amazing what changes that people in their 90's have seen.

I think Walter Cronkite was a great news anchor and was well respected. BUT... he was a tad left leaning in his newscasts.

I always remember watching the Huntley/Brinkley Report as a kid. Chet Huntley and David Brinkley were a good team back in the day.

They sure were. I guess Walter might have leaned a bit left but by today's standards he was far right.
