I expect rhetoric from Republicans and Democrats alike to support their points of view in the health care debate. It's natural in politics, I guess, to stretch the truth ever so slightly if it gets your point across.

But ol' Joe . . . suggesting that America will go bankrupt if the health care plan isn't passed?

Vice presidents ought to know better than to make such rash statements, but then no one has ever accused Biden of knowing when it is prudent to shut his mouth.

That's beside the point, though. How irresponsible is this statement? Especially when it comes on the same day that the Congressional Budget Office says the health care overhaul currently being considered would actually increase, not decrease, federal costs.
