Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What will the republicans do now?

The Democrats now have 60 votes in the senate. The Republicans, assuming everyone votes along party lines, have no power whatsoever.

What will the Republicans do, and even for those who agree absolutely with the Democrats, do you think it;s a good thing that they have such total control?

I personally am more of a centrist (Although I dislike the extent to which the Republicans are controlled by the Religious right), and while I think that a congress that is more or less evenly divided would tend to block itself, which isn't very useful, domination by either party won't work very well.

LMAO, you know whats found in the middle of the road don't you? Dead animals.

Republicans are in a great position right now. The Dems own everything and are showing their lack of leadership skills every day. People say the economy and jobs are their top priority. Turns out it's not the Dems. Their top priority is tearing down the CIA, weakening our defenses, Cap and Tax, and ruining the national healthcare for a tiny fraction of the actual uninsured in America. Nothing they have done to date has anything to do with jobs. Nothing proposed in the future has anything that will create jobs. They're plans will only distroy jobs in America.

Yep, all the "honesty" and "transparency" we were promised is where?

The good thing is the Dems may have 60 votes on paper, but not in reality. kennedy and byrd are seriously ill, and chances are neither one will be able to cast a vote again. Some Dems are getting nervous about towing the party line, if for no other reason than elections are coming up next year and they know what things are looking like right now.

Like FM said, trying to stay in the middle of the road will just get you run over, or at best you'll really tick off drivers from both directions.

60 votes is like giving them just enough rope to hang themselves.

. . . and talking about witch-hunts after the Bush administration (Earth to Obama -- you won! Election over! Move on!) officials.

Yes, points well taken. Obama isn't delivering on what he promised to the moderates who tilted his way rather than McCain's way. I'm guessing a LOT of those moderates are not too happy with their choice today. Of course, the Democrat base of Koolaid drinkers would snap to attention and belch "Heil Hitler!" if Adolf were ressurected and run as a Demcrat for office, so no reason to expect them to see anything other than perfection and bliss in the current circumstances.

Mid term elections might temper the edge a bit and like was said Kennedy and Byrd are on the way out. I do have concerns about the damage until the field is leveled though. Seeing Sota get into the SC will be a picture of the future. 4 years of Obama is one thing but a lifetime of the wrong SC pick is another. We might just live with the damage of this administration longer than it will take to remove our multi trillion dollar deficit.

On any given issue, especially gun control, the Democrats can count on 6-10 Republican votes in the US senate. 6 or more Republican senators will vote to confirm Sotomayor.

I think it is time for the Democrats to show some bi-partisan ship in their acts in Congress. Those large majorities just allow conservative Democrats to stray from the party line -- there is less problem with it and less pressure for everyone to in the party to stick together. So, strange as it may seem, a Democratic majority may result in more conservatisim among the party than previously.

Further, just about every president after his initial election saw his party lose seats in Congress at the first mid-term election. So I hope folks here don't start to believe that some tide is turning -- losing seats is what usually happens.
