Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default No Health Insurance-Pay a Fine

Under the Senate's plan one could be fined for not having health insurance. Of course, congress will decide what constitutes "affordable" health insurance. This is another revenue generating measure. These scumbags are totally out of their rabbit minds.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090702/ap_on_go_co/us_health_care_overhaul

Quote:
WASHINGTON "“ Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.

Big brother is slowly getting all the tentacles into our lives. First they tax us then they fine us if we don't get their insurance. Sounds very Socialistic to me. Next thing they will be telling us how many kids we can have.

Interesting, its only a small step from here for the government to either raise your premiums or decline you coverage (in the advent that you will have to pay a fine) because you have firearms on your property. Maybe Iam jumping the gun, but stranger things are happening.

I'm hoping there are some lawyers ready to start filing suits--no way this is Constitutional.

They are saying it is the same as the current requirement at least in my state that all drivers have liability insurance for their cars. Get caught without insurance and you get fined and lose your license until you can show insurance. The precedent has been made at least here.

Everyone has to have insurance or you can't drive.....if you get caught bad news. When you get pulled over for a check they will ask to see you Lic, reg and insurance card. We have annual vehicle state inspections here and part of it you have to show a current insurance card so it really is hard to get a car registered and drive it without insurance.

Car insurance is only mandated to cover the driver you hit. There is no mandate for you to cover your car when buying car insurance.

Just google the term QALY. This will be the norm even with private insurance because the government will mandate that all insurance companies follow it because the government will have to inorder to control costs.

If the link is that not having health insurance unfairly transfers a financial burden to others, then there is possibly solid logic there. Note that I am not addressing the hows and whys, only the potential link as pointed out by CI.

For the ill-educated on this thread, the operative word is "if."

You bet it is. And all those members (and American citizens) who previously sat in denial of the questions on the sidelines of this issue (because it did not yet affect them...at least that is what they would like to think) are now suddenly interested in what is happening in Washington...isn't that special?

Years ago, I wrote that this would be the natural conclusion if people did not seek relief for the burdens foisted on the American employer and many American families. Is it the right course of events? Maybe yes, maybe no. But it certainly is the natural course.

When the private sectors fails to address it problems the public sector will always step in use brute force.

Suddenly everyone is perking up and paying attention?
