Default Who are the uninsured in this country?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/06/21/taking_a_razor_to_the_presidents_plan_97094.html
Quote:
Although 70 percent of insured Americans rate their health care arrangements good or excellent, radical reform of health care is supposedly necessary because there are 45.7 million uninsured. That number is, however, a "snapshot" of a nation in which more than 20 million working Americans change jobs every year. Many of them are briefly uninsured between jobs. If all the uninsured were assembled for a group photograph, and six months later the then-uninsured were assembled for another photograph, about half the people in the photos would be different.
Almost 39 percent of the uninsured are in five states -- Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, all of which are entry points for immigrants. About 21 percent -- 9.7 million -- of the uninsured are not citizens. Up to 14 million are eligible for existing government programs -- Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, veterans' benefits, etc. -- but have not enrolled. And 9.1 million have household incomes of at least $75,000 and could purchase insurance. Those last two cohorts are more than half of the 45.7 million.

Why do some people think that having healthcare insurance is a right in the first place? I have it, at a cost of $350 per month, because I chose a field of endevor that provided me access to it at a rate I could afford. No burger and fries jobs do that.

I'm still wondering how some of the people who try to show they are more informed on this board would even buy into the notion that healthcare is the real problem that the left claims to be and the notion that somehow making your neighbors paying for thier bills would result in better healthcare system then we have today. It's amazing how folks believe the government is better at anything than the free market. Then again, some were raised to be dependents.[:-]

This effort is a socialist endeavor, plain and simple. If these turds would make 254.3 million Americans pay
for the health care of the 45.7 million uninsured I don't think the bill would be so crushing. The fact these
scumbags want EVERYONE to pay for a new plan for EVERYONE, is ridiculous and untenable. There is no bill
a socialist cannot delegate....

The immigration issue needs to be dealt with promptly and properly. They are a tremendous burden on our society, and will remain so until they are removed.

It will never happen....the dems consider them a farm-team for democratic voters, and the republicans see them as a source of cheap labor. If government will not address the lawlessness of illegal immigration, what are citizens supposed to do when tax dollars are exhausted on supporting feel-good socialist schemes to accomodate illegals ?
I know in Arizona, hospitals are going bankrupt providing free health-care for them....

Basic medical care is available to all, and always has been by law. Health insurance is not a human right, it's a privelege you earn for yourself. Why is that so difficult to understand?

It is difficult to understand for anyone who believes in entitlements and a free ride at taxpayer expense.
These, we call leeches due to their parasitic nature and their penchant for blood-sucking in the name of
some altruistic fictional situation.

I heard an even better observation on the radio the other day, regarding health insurance. A caller
asked a simple question: "Since when has health insurance become all-encompassing in covering all services ?"
His meaning was that for most folks, 'insurance' is a pad against unexpected events. Your auto insurance is for
accidents, damage, etc...it does not cover the cost of maintaining the vehicle (and most of the manufacturer's warranties don't cover this either). Same with medical insurance; if you have a heart attack, or get cancer, or
break a bone, you depend on your medical coverage. When you go to the doctor, why is that covered under
medical insurance ? People go to the doctor all the time, and mostly for no good reason at all. This is a drain on any insurance company, and represents unnecessary medical expenses of a non-emergency nature. Yet, we expect our medical coverage to provide all services 'free', once the policy is paid-for and in good standing. It does seem rather insane... As far as Basic medical care for all, this has been the case for a long time now; this is the reason why illegals can bankrupt American hospitals in the Southwestern U.S. by demanding medical services.

Kevin, I agree with you 100%. But what happens when your boss says "Bottom line stinks, chit can the health insurance" ? You may or may not be able to afford coverage, let alone qualify for it.

I'm not in favor of free national healthcare at all. Just letting you know that there are some uninsured people that aren't cleaning the pissers at Wendys.
