Thanks for remembering falcon.
I have a very dear and close family member who served in that theater in WWII. Wayne is his name. He was lead mechanic at the local Ford dealership when he was drafted so he was put into the tank corp. as a repairman. He didn't serve on the front lines but he did tell me once that after the invasion, tanks would come to the rear for repair and they would have to "clean out" the tanks before they could begin working on them. I won't revisit the details out of respect for the fallen but you get the point - of what things Wayne saw and had to remove from the tanks.
One of the happierstories he shared was that once the French "Riviera" (sp) was conquered, he and his unit were stationed there. I asked him what it was like and he said "Someone had to guard all those Frenchwomen who were left there (wink)

"
Huzzah! to all our serving men and women, past, present, and future!
Thanks again falcon, a very appropriate thread.
