I've often reflected on the fact that there was far less crimes when there were far more guns. On a recent tv show I watched a guy was describing how back near the turn of the 20th century through the 1920smany folkscarried small handguns, usually .25-.32 calibers for personal protection. He related that the crime rate at the time was so lowthat his relatives, who had lived back then in NY city, described walking through Central Park after midnight to go to after hours clubs in Harlem, yet they felt no fear of being robbed or raped. Crime in that era was almost exclusively directed against institutions or government, not people and their property. Back then folks were a lot more well mannered too, and they were because they knew that it was unwise to offend another person just in case they happenned to be armed, which was more likely than not. The saying is true, when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. [&o]
